So I just came from my visit with the doc. Again she and my T are both suspecting bipolar. However she says she isn't 100% sold yet because I've not experienced staying up for days at a time and I'm not sure wether I've been dangerously happy. So for now she has prescribed the antidepressant Zoloft for my depression and anxiety and as a tester to see if it will throw me into mania. I guess this is good. I just want to know what's going on with me. I don't see my happy states as bad. I do buy things impulsively when I'm obsessing or have ideas. I've also experienced hyper religiosity and hyper sexuality doing things I wouldn't date do now. I'm just so confused. I just want to be better. I guess we'll have to see what happens with this medicine.

I don't think I would call putting someone on a SSRI to see if it throws them into a manic episode a good thing. It seems like a really, really irresponsible thing to do. But I'm not a pdoc, and that's just a personal opinion. I hope the Zoloft doesn't make you worse.

I agree with the above. I was put on zoloft, despite how my suspected I had bipolar, and just off 25mg I went manic and it didn't end well.

Good luck.

Paxil for me. Wasn't pretty.

I hope I don't get worse either. I guess if I do become hypomanic or manic they will know for sure. She's just treating me for my present symptoms of anxiety and depression. If I'm not bipolar then I'm not sure what else could explain the other things that I've dealt with in my life.

It's hard to say if it made me manic, but I did have a severe manic episode a little over a month after taking it.

Did it make you anymore manic than before? Or like if the mania was worse than you experience before.

I just took a 25mg tablet of zoloft and literally an hour later I was above cloud nine.

It was the worst manic episode I've ever had. But I'm sure there were other factors involved in making me that manic. I got hypomanic soon after starting the paxil, but certain choices I made, like deciding I didn't need to even try sleeping at all, didn't help.

Ok, the doc told me that if I felt hyperactive, angry, suicidal, or like I dint need sleep that I need to call immediately and stop taking it.

If it makes you overly euphoric, you may not want to stop taking it. I felt so good I didn't want to stop taking it! But, MAKE yourself not take it anymore! Dump the pills out or something or throw them away or return them immediately to the pharmacy.

Do NOT keep taking it, no matter how good it may make you feel.
Thanks for this!

Thanks for this note, I told my husband what to look for in me so he can help.

Thanks for the update on your visit to your doc - I love your signature by the way - I used to have this as mine a while back:

Update on my doc visit.

Because it's so true! I fail forward daily.

I can identify with some symptoms there that you have described that would class me as hypomanic.

I think that some of the other ones that she is possibly waiting for, well I don't know, personally they seem extreme - "dangerously happy" ... "staying up for days at a time" ... that would describe my manic episode, not my hypomanic episode - I can be "cheerful" when hypomanic and get less sleep when hypomanic but not stay up for days on end. That would only come much later during an elevated mood for me.

Well I guess with the med change your doc knows what they are doing, so try not to be too anxious or anything like that about these changes. Your doc is a qualified professional who will pick up when you start to show symptoms of hypomania, if, indeed you show any at all from this changeover.

Depression is not fun, and I'm sorry to hear that that is your current mood state. I tend to find that my anxiety levels are at their worst when I'm depressed - just everything seems confusing and hopeless.

At least your doctor has given you some clear cut symptoms to look out for, which you within yourself will recognise and be able to call your doctor immediately as advised (hyperactive, angry, suicidal etc)

It's good that you're using your husband as a sounding board and have him looking out for your symptoms too. I like to get input from a neutral third part too on how I'm travelling and your husband probably knows you best when it comes to symptoms that he could be looking out for.

I agree - continue to take the meds; even if you feel better; don't stop; because it's likely the meds that are causing you to feel a bit more stable at the moment.

Keep moving forward.

Update on my doc visit.
