*This is a double post because I didn't know where to post this*

Quick story: I am in a partial and am getting manic, and am officially diagnosed bipolar.

So my PRN at my partial wants to put me on Seroquel and Latuda at the same time. She just upped my latuda from 20 to 40 mg and wants me to go on seroquel 3 times a day, 4 pills a day (1 in the morning, 1 in the afternoon, 2 at night). I don't know the dose yet, but that seems like it is going to be a decent amount.

Anyway, I am scared of the side effects of Seroquel and what will happen with both of them together? I mean they are both anti-psychotics, why have me on both?

Anybody else been on both before, and how is it on Seroquel?

TIA

That seems a bit strange to put someone on two AAPs at the same time, but I'm not a psychdoc so I'm not sure. If you have concerns about being on both you need to speak up and say something. You have just as much right to participate in your treatment as they do to administer treatment. Seroquel does have mood stabilizing capability in higher doses though, so that may be why they want to have you on both. Latuda for the AP effect and seroquel as a mood stabilizer

Seems to be a trend.. if your going up and up most likely they want to drench you in some AAP's to bring you down instead of allowing your mood to escalate.. Its easier to stop a stream than a raging river.

Ask for details why your provider feels this is the best plan.

Hope your feeling better very quickly

I just got off the Seroquel because of all the side effects. My blood sugar and pressure was through the roof. They decided on switching to Latuda instead but that just gave me more anxiety. Can't win either way.

Even at 40 mg of Latuda, I am not tired whatsoever and it is 10 where I am. I took my pill at 7 and it isn't working. I'm going to try to sleep now, but will probably be up pacing some and watching some episodes of House :P

That is an interesting trend that they got going, but I will definitely talk to my PRN tomorrow, and see what she has to say. Another thing I don't like about her is that she doesn't tell me what type of pill she is prescribing, just the name. Like with Seroquel, she just said it is a sleep aid and to take it 3 times a day. After I researched it, I found out it was an AAP.

Anyway, I'll see what happens and see what level of dose she puts me on to see if it helps or not.

I hate seroquel so much. I've been taking it the way I'm supposed to for about a month now (200mg a night), and I have rapidly gained weight. I look like I'm pregnant. Seriously. People at work are probably gossiping about whether or not I'm pregnant. I am off of it after my appointment on thursday. I'm in between doctors, and when I stopped taking it on my own became severely depressed.

SO, the nice news is that seroquel apparently works great for depression, or just for mood stabilization in general I guess.

Good luck.

I have noticed that both latuda and seroquel are mainly used to control depression, either bipolar depression or unipolar. So I am wondering why I am getting it if she thinks I am manic... Will definitely ask that when I see her today.

The latuda at 40 mg definitely put me to sleep last night, but my mind fought it hard. I still woke up every 2 hours with the craziest racing thoughts and insane energy, but the medication would force me to go back to sleep again. My mind is constantly fighting. During the day I am in control, so I stay very manic and jumping off the walls haha.
