So lately I have been completing bipolar screening tools online. My diagnosis, from a pdoc who specializes in psychiatry, is bipolar II.

Here's the funny thing about these screening tools though: I keep receiving mixed results. I scored high enough on the psychcentral bipolar screening test that they considered my symptoms to be moderate-severe, but when I completed another bipolar screening test the results came back as "little or no bipolar disorder."

What...? Wouldn't these tests be more consistent? Or am I lying about something on these tests?

Anyways, my question is to you guys is have you ever been through a similar situation? Receiving mixed results about your diagnosis? Questioning your diagnosis?

I don't doubt that I am bipolar. When I took my first antidepressant without an antipsychotic, I went into an elevated, uncomfortable mood. I heard that this happens a lot with patients who have bipolar and/or borderline personality disorder. I'm curious as to what you guys have to say about this...

Hi,

I have had varying Dxs depending on the doc. I more or less focus on symptoms and needed relief when it comes to treatment more than Dx.

What kind of symptoms are you seeking relief from?

Moogieottor, as of right now nothing is concerning me, except for triggered hypomania/depression, and anxiety. It just puzzles me that you can't just fit into one box, although I know that it's the [symptoms] that need taken care of, not the diagnosis.

I'm still coming to terms with my diagnosis in many ways.

You really should not take online quizzes seriously, I could take them 3 days in a row and get 3 different results.

Nailing down the "specific" Bipolar often takes time. Everyone presents differently. Pdocs have there own guidelines when diagnosing yes they all use to DSM, Some are quick to diagnosis and some prefer to sit back and watch to see how your bipolar acts and cycles.

Meanwhile your still going to be treated for the symptoms, Doesn't matter which flavor you have. There are no specific meds for I versus II etc.

It's hard not want a written in stone diagnosis.. But Bipolar is a tricky slippery beast and time will reveal it's self
