(Yes, two posts in a row, but different topics)

Just went to the Doctor's today. They put me on Prozac.

I had it once before briefly and it seemed to work okay. This is the first time I'm going to try taking it daily. This longer period of time should see the effectiveness.

I really hope it helps me. Anyway have experience with it? Or anyone that takes both Prozac and a Mood Stabilizer (like Lamictal which I take)?

Hi,

I enjoy Prozac with Lamictal for 18 months now. No complaints. Just be patient as it takes several weeks to build up.

Please let us know how it goes for you.

It sent me into a extremely bad manic episode.... Just letting you know the other side of things too.. Anti depressants in general are not a good idea for me though.

I took it with Lamictal with good results, but then I got depressed, and my pdoc upped the dosage. It sent me into a downward spiral with psychosis. It makes me think that maybe that first depression was a reaction to the smaller dose. I know lots of people it has helped, though when coupled with therapy.

It made me very, very mixed before I was officially diagnosed or knew the term. Everyone started talking hospital but I somehow managed to realize it was the problem and stop it without permission from my idiotic pdoc at the time and then get in to see someone actually competent. But SSRIs were all a nightmare for me and while I was on lithium it never was enough of a stabilizer alone. I know now I had akathesia; at the time it was "my apartment isn't big enough so I spend an extra few hours at work and then pace around walmart every night for a couple hours and then hope my meds put me to sleep quickly'.

I'm in a minority though; I know it helps lots of people.

Glad it has worked for you. What dosages are you on?

Glad it's worked for him. I'll let you know how it goes for me (may be a few weeks or so).

yes, I've heard it can do that. The couple weeks I took in back in April it was fine. But taking it longer and potentially increasing the dose could change that. We will see.

I think it's sort of a personal thing too. I also have Bipolar 2, so I do not get psychosis. Glad you got out of that okay though.

What are SSRI's and akathesia? And as I said to the above poster, I'm glad you made it out of that okay.

SSRI-selective Serotonin re-uptake inhibitor. It's the class of antidepressants that includes Prozac, zoloft, paxil, lexapro, celexa, maybe a couple others since I avoid them I don't know.

Akathesia-a movement disorder where you feel you have to move all the time. Not common with anti-depressants, a little more common but still rare with anti-psychotics unless you are me and then it just pops up from time to time.

The lamictal will help you not have the same kind of experience I had. I was on lithium but lithium never worked alone for me. It was great in combinations but not alone.

Hi,

I enjoy it. Both are pretty mild. I mean I do not really "feel" them. Both have such a slow build up 5+ weeks. I just have more energy and less worry and a nice even keel, while still being productive and functioning.

Thanks,

moogs
