Hi all- (MAY BE A SUICIDE MEMORY TRIGGER)

I am a teacher at a high school of over 2500 kids. We have had at least 1 suicide every year. This year, the student was one of mine. The counselors give a suicide prevention talk every year, but the kids are in their english class and I'm sure it doesn't get through to many.

After Nic's death this year, I'm trying to bring mental heath awareness to the school but I don't know how to do this. My administration wants to hide MI under the rug and in a locked box. You should have seen how difficult it was to get my accommodations WITH a doctors note- what they're LEGALLY required to do.

Anyway, I digress. Does anyone have ideas about how to bring awareness to these kids. Out of 2500, statistics show that at least 1 in 10 of them suffer from some MI or will in the future. (I actually think it's 1 in 4) That's ALOT of kids.

Your input is more than valuable to me!

Could you find a way to slip it in on the back end? I guess I was thinking incorporating a major component of some nutrition talk and the benefits and affects on the brain. And possibly reinforce it when the kids go to gym/health to emphasizes the importance of an active lifestyle on emotional stability. Or are you more talking about how the kids need to know how it is ok to ask for help when they are struggling?
