I am not sure why this hasn't bothered me in the past well because I am on this particular medication or why it bothers me at all really. But what is the deal with direct to consumer advertising of antipsychotics (Latuda) on t.v. Is this the direction that our country is going 'I don't know doc I saw this commercial and I think they're right I need antipsychotics'. What? Are you ****ing crazy? Sorry poor choice of words. But seriously I have never see 'ask your doctor if chemo is right for you'. Ok bad analogy but I think I've made my point

Good point yanks. We get the ads in Canada too on the American channels we have. It's like the pharmaceutical industry is trying to turn every consumer into a consultant for doctors.

Yeah, and I guess it doesn't bother me for like dry eyes, or constipation or whatever, but this is seriously heavy duty medications we are talking about that are being tossed around like advil. I feel like there is no scenario where you (or anyone just a pronoun) see the commercial and go in and TELL your doctor I want to be on this. Isn't that why he/she is the doctor. and Ripose I like your dx by the way

The trouble is, the commercial doesn't tell people the drug is an antipsychotic. They make it out to be a super antidepressant. Most people don't want to take an AP, just the word freaks them out. So it's advertised as a remedy for depression. Like someone else said, just follow the money.

There's commercials on TV advertising psych meds? Seriously? I haven't watched television in years. We always just watch stuff on netflix. I feel I would be appalled if I watched TV now. My mom had the TV on one time when we were over and there was a tampon commercial on, and I was like what the *****. lol

I am appalled at psychiatric drug advertisements to the public. What you've described is exactly what happens. Just look at threads on PC, people asing for which drugs to get from other people who have no idea but what they have learned on tv!

People who have a bad day, or eat badly or drink a lot think these drugs will fix them.... overmedicated USA

I can't imagine asking a pdoc for something based off of a TV commercial. Those commercials give almost no actual information whatsoever. Maybe it's just my paranoia, Idunno, but I researched the hell out of medication options, side effects, studies, reviews, etc before telling my pdoc which ones scared me and which ones I was interested in, and then we had a full discussion on specifically why. I can't even imagine someone saying, "The actress in that commercial looked a lot happier in the ending scene, so I wanna try that one."

Big Pharma isn't about finding medications that help people..it is all about the money, If there chemicals do help someone,, well then its just a plus.

Exactly it is advertised for bipolar depression which automatically makes one think of an SSRI or MAOI
