I am 70 years old and have always disdained tattoos. Swore I would never get one, could see no reason to. But the semicolon tattoos spoke to me and two days ago I just walked into a tattoo parlor and had one done. One of those with a semicolon and a butterfly. Shocked my friends and family and everyone was surprised I did it by myself. But If I am big enough to do it, I am big enough to do it by myself.

I think the idea of one is good and I don't regret it yet.

My sisters and I went to get ours for my birthday, they got theirs in my honour, as a way of validating my battle. This is the one I chose for myself....

Thank you I chose the heart because I've been working hard on loving myself and my life.

My sisters' gesture literally brought me to tears. It was one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done for me

Getting my first tattoo tomorrow. I am 52 and have always loved them.
Getting a nautical themed tattoo that I worked the semicolon into.
It should look great.
My Girlfriend is getting a semicolon butterfly as a show of support.
She is a good lady.

The organization explained the significance of this particular punctuation, writing “[a] semicolon is used when an author could’ve chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life.” Since its beginning in 2013, Project Semicolon has gained worldwide attention and support, with the semicolon tattoo spreading in solidarity.

I got mine done - I added a comma beneath a freckle I have on my foot. I've frequently drawn around the freckle over the years so it suited me just fine there. I got the tattoo artist to colour-match it as best as he could. They're close in colour but not the same - but that's ok because that's how freckles work. So... no one would notice it unless I pointed it out to them.

I suspect that there are plenty of folks who disdain tattoos only because they haven;t found one yet that calls to their inner spirit.

I got my first tattoos 10 years ago, when I was 42. They're such a part of me and my body I don't even think about them.

Good for you, jtokc!
Thanks for this!

Well I did it. Got my first tattoo today. It looks amazing.
I got and old school traditional anchor with a semicolon
worked in. The artist did an amazing job and captured what I
envisioned perfectly. My girlfriend got a semicolon butterfly to
show her support.

Depends on the job and location where you're working. I've worked in fast food restaurants, grocery stores, and academia. Nobody cared. I'm in California, though, so the people might be more open about it.

I only have one tattoo so far. But I want lots and lots more...just need money first!

Here is the one I have, it is my "signature" that I draw everywhere and doodle on people's papers. The nostrils are my initials.
