I live in a basement suite and I was taking out the garbage, I lost my balance somehow and fell from the top step all the way to the basement where I put my head right through the drywall striking the concrete wall behind it.

I don't know if the fall was caused by meds or not, it could have been. Anyway I have to be more careful.

I'm lucky I did not break a bunch of bones since I have osteoporosis.

No I'm not going to the doctor, I feel fine.

Be careful if your meds cause balance problems!

I'm so glad you are ok. I haven't had my meds make me fall or even woozy. Sometimes I get foggy on my Klonopin. How long have you been on your meds?

That is terrible, Ripose. I hope you're doing okay after such a fall. Thank you for the advice. Meds do cause me to have slight balance problems and stairs are always tricky.

I've been on my meds for about 12-13 years, except Lamictal which I started about 1 1/2 months ago.

I'm on Lamictal and I have not had that problem, but it is worth discussing with your doctor because meds effect ppl differently.

I've had trouble with my combination of meds making my blood pressure low and have fallen because of that. But that usually happens after getting up too fast, not when doing something. I actually fell and tore up my ankle so badly I had to have reconstruction surgery because I was in a hurry and didn't bother to wait for the dizziness to pass and jumped out of my car and tried to run into my therapist's office. I barely made it 5 steps before I was on the ground and he was running late too so it didn't even help anything.

I've never had balance problems, though I do seem to be more clumsy than normal, as far as dropping things, knocking things over, and so on

That may be it then. Do you have a way to check your blood pressure or can you go to a store that has a machine? If it is too low you may need the inderal adjusted. I had trouble with that when I was on it for lithium tremors.

There are blood pressure machines at almost every pharmacy, so it won't be a problem finding one.

Lack of balance control is listed as one of the side effects of Lamictal, as is lack of coordination.

I've had some coordination issues on Lamictal. Not actually lack of balance, but lack of coordination. I have nowadays remarkable often spilled my coffee cup when trying to grab it, also my typing is slower and i make typos all the time. Like my right hand would finish it's letters first and then left hand follows... So i think it might be Lamictal in your case.

I was on Lamictal for a very brief period. When I was on it, I developed a red, itchy rash on my arms that became painful( probably because I couldn't stop scratching which made the rash worse, of course) and I did pass out in the shower, which is unusual for me. When I called my pdoc about it, she said to stop taking it immediately and walk, don't run, to the ER. I did and after they evaluated me, it was determined that I'd had an allergic reaction to it. I was also on a very low dose but I have a sensitive system and it's been tricky getting my med combo/doses right.

You may also check your blood pressure as others are saying in this thread. You may consider consulting your pdoc also, as dizziness, especially if it's unusual for you, can bea warning sign that something's not right with your med combo. Whatever the issue may be. Better to be safe than sorry!

I hope you're feeling better! Hitting your noggin that hard can cause considerable damage on its own. I will be thinking positive thoughts for you and hoping your dizzy spells stop soon.
