Hello. Recently, I learned that my hormones aren't at the levels they are suppose to be at. I have been getting minor mood fluctuation of happiness of depression.
During my happy period, I will feel really happy like I'm at the top of the world. I seem to have a good self-esteem (other than my anxiety problems), I talk a lot, I giggle and laugh at any sentence said basically. I say things that I probably wouldn't normally say and it hurts the relationship I have with my friends. During my sad period, I am super depressed, lose interest in doing anything, eat too much, sleep either too little or much, depending on the day, I don't want to talk or do anything.
Possible trigger:
Anyways, the happy period is like 3-5 days while my depression changes from only 2 weeks to 2 months. This just started recently (the happy period thing), so I don't know if that was because of my doctor stating I have hormones that aren't normal. I am going to the hospital for that next week, so. A lot of the time during my happy period, when I am giggling non-stop, my family says "take a chill pill". I can't control if I feel that happy and stuff. Any thoughts? Thanks.

I know hormones can affect me and my moods tremendously but I still have bp symptoms when my hormones aren't at play. I agree thyroid issues can truly mimic bp some. I have both so I have to keep on top of my hypothyroid.
Worth getting checked out

We checked my thyroid and that is fine. Everything is in normal range. It's all the other hormones (woman hormones). They are messed up. Thyroid kinda is ruled out.
Also, I have high testosterone, when I am a female so... Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk

Yes, and I'm living proof of that! I have Hashimoto's disease (auto immune disease that affects my thyroid). Sometimes the doctors don't know if it's that or BP. It's very difficult. Also, track the changes on the calender and see if there is a pattern. Hugs!

I don't have out of whack hormones like you BUT my period seriously messes with me. I've gone into hospital several times and them got it. I'm very irregular so I didn't know my suicidal urges/actions were bc of that. Now I take bc and it helps a lot!

They can't cause it, but they can totally exacerbate it. Pregnancy has done so many strange things to my mood disorser... I've been manic three times in the past eight months, which is totally not normal for me (usually I'll have one two-month long episode of full blown mania a year).
Also, when the hormones first kicked in at the beginning of my pregnancy, I was so depressed that I slept all day, consequently losing my job. The severity of it is what inspired me to take a pregnancy test, because it seemed weird to me. So, yes. Hormones f with bipolar disorder. Big time. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk |

There a bunch of different ones....
Interacts? Its just hormones. Are you on lamictal? I take it and it decreases the effectiveness of hormone birth control so I just take a higher dose.

Sorry I haven't responded to a lot of these. I have been side-tracked.
Anyways, when I went to the hospital, the doctor said I most likely don't have PCOS due to lack of facial hair and acne. I do have high androgen levels though and I miss my period at times. My friend told me it could be from stressed, and I am stressed often so... Also, I can get very bouncy in these happy periods. Like I want to shake my legs really hard or bounce around. That is so much fun. Anyways, I can live with the happy periods because they aren't that long and I haven't done something extremely dumb (yet). I will deal with my depression later when I don't have to tell my parents or be with them. I want to decide my treatment without them saying yes or no to it. Thanks for all your responses ![]() Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk

My hormones run my life more than the bipolar. Although I continuously get diagnosed as in a severe mixed episode for my pmdd pms symptoms as they are so severe I need hospitalisation.
im depressed and in pain fr 9 days a month with insane anxiety , then I get my period and I am happy and carefree for a few days until the guilt hits and I'm low til I drag my sorry arse out of t, have a few good days, then the hormones hit again. |

Hi there. I'm new here. Hormones totally affect my moods. A decades long pattern (I'm 48) is that when the PMS time hits my mood plummets such that I get suicidally depressed, even when nothing else bad is going on. So for years I have been on the contraceptive pill which stops my ovulation and thus PMS. It's helped me so well (I have multiple complex mental illnesses). I'm not sexually active so it's simply to manage my hormones. Just a thought.

I have been on the Nuva Ring for a few years now, but Trileptal interacts with it, meaning I essentially have to use another form of bc since it decreases its effectiveness. The only reason I'm on the bc is to keep me regular (since I've never really been regular) and because the Trileptal was causing breakthrough bleeding when I started taking it.
Anyway, I've noticed the past two months that the week it's out that my moods are super crazy and I get really depressed. Which is weird because it's rarely effected me before. So I'm inclined to say hormones do in fact effects bipolar, but I don't think it is the cause of it. (my thyroid has been checked in the past too, it's always been on the normal side of normal, but its still in the normal range, so it's left as is) |
