this morning as I was waking up ... pretty sure I was awake enough to not have been a dream ... I heard my first name yelled in my left ear ... now I am ancient and have never had anything close to this happen ... oh by the way no one else was home ... it really scared me ... but the funny thing is for some reason I "knew" it was not really there , make any sense ...

Yes, I get night terrors too. Often think I've heard shouting or screaming or laughter. Maybe it's my mess, maybe I'm just crazy!

You were probably still dreaming. This kind of thing where reality and the dream world blend happens to me frequently.

I usually have this happen just as I am falling asleep but would swear I'm still awake!

Well, when I have auditory hallucinations I usually just hear noises or single words, not conversations.

Examples:
I was taking a shower and had my back to the curtain. A man's voice came right up as if whispering loudly in my ear "HEY!" I screamed. I thought it was my husband playing a prank on me, but no, I was alone and he was asleep.

Another time I was driving down the road. I see an ambulance coming toward me. Instead of a siren, the ambulance is a man's voice screaming in agony (but as loud as a siren.) That same day, I heard it again while I was washing the dishes.

It's very scary and it sounds like it's right in the room with me or all around me when it happens.

I hope it was a dream, too.

For me, hallucinations are few and far between, which I'm glad.

i know exactly what ur talking about... ive had it too, but not only just my name being called, more like door slamming or whatever....

if i can remmber correctly, this is an auditory hallucination from being half-awake/half-asleep.... just like when ur falling asleep, those first few minutes when ur falling asleep are full of mental hallucinations, and then ur knocked out....

but i dont remember what it was called... im not sure if its hypnogogic something... i dont know, but it is something ive had happen to mee too...

This has happened to me many times, always when I am awake. Happened once when I was on PC making a post so I'm sure I was awake.

Maybe it's ghosts!

Hypnagogic hallucination probably, they happen right before you fall asleep or when you're just waking up
