I'm seeking out something to help with my anger and iritibility. I'm not open to ADs at the moment either. What is everyone's history with Abilify? Good and bad.

Also, does it help you sleep? My AP must put me down at night!

I also had horrible akathesia on Abilify. I always think of it as being stimulating although that might be completely wrong just on the basis of what it was like for me.

I'm now considering (well my pdoc is considering) trying Abilify's new generation drug, Rexulti. It scares me but it's something I've not tried that I can get samples of.

Abilify is in my mix. It's a'ight, I guess. It certainly does its job of curtailing mania/psychosis... but I feel it has robbed me of that zest for life. I'm actually going to be looking for a switch next time I see pdoc because my life feels so empty and I'm sick and tired of it... though, of course, it could be the Celexa, or the combination of them both. But yeah, it works, at least for me, it does what its supposed to do.

Doesn't put me to sleep though. I mean, I guess, if I remember correctly, it did at first, but now I'm on Trazodone/Ambien (still trying out the Ambien - like it so far) because I still have trouble sleeping sometimes.

As for the anger/irritability, I don't know if it is the Abilify or the Celexa (used also for anxiety I hear, but also an AD), but something curbed these issues for me. I would bet money the Abilify played a big part in this.

Best of luck.

Abilify has worked great at stablizing me. It put me to sleep at first but that effect seems to have warn off for me now. Thats my experience anyways.

Omg...it was the worst for me. It gave me brain zaps like from electricity...and I can see the flashes behind my eye lids at the top. I also heard my brain short circuiting. In 30 min of taking it, I'd pass out for an hour...at the smallest buy-able dose.

I've heard of others that can eat it like candy, not me! Good luck!

Abilify helped me with depression but it turns out I am allergic. I know it has helped a lot of people though!

I had a bad reaction to Abilify, it made me hypomanic, nearly manic. The pdoc took me off it immediately.

It def put me to sleep - I would take it at night and by the next night at like 9PM I literally couldn't keep my eyes open.. It helped for anxiety and paranoia for a while but then just stopped :/

Sadly, it gave me the dreaded akathisia, as I see it's done to a few people. Akathisia is the agony of feeling simultaneously sedated and incredibly restless. Well, it was for me. Basically, no matter how you sit, stand, lie or lean, you are simply not able to get comfortable.

That being said, it is prescribed for the symptoms you describe with apparent high efficacy. So it is definitely worth a try. Worst case scenario you catch the onset of akathisia early and try find something else.

Best of luck!

Gave me akathesia too, so I wasn't on it that long.

I had really bad side effects with abilify, it's on my meds list of things I cannot take / allergies. I get this really weird racing heart and I have to stretch my arms and legs out as far as they can or it feels like my heart will explode. Also, I had the tapping and figgiting and rocking problem. And that was on a teeny tiny starter dose.

So that's what akathesia is?! I thought I just had restless leg.

I've had fairly good luck w/abilify. My new pdoc cut me back to 5 mg from 10, saying Abilify has "a narrow range of effectiveness". I've been on it a year and just recently started experiencing mild atathesia.

Tried 20mgs of Abilify and I'm sweating profusely and it's very uncomfortable. I'm hoping this is just something else and not the med.

I take Abilify, but I honestly don't know what it does for me. We've recently added Latuda, to reduce anxiety, and will begin tapering off the Abilify this month. Hopefully, we can eliminate it altogether, because who wants two APs when one will do? I fall asleep on the couch every night about 9:00 pm, but I don't know if it's because of my medication or my age...

I was on risperdal and seroquel. But I only used a small amount of seroquel to help me sleep. So it wasn't even a therapeutic dose
