I've been on Geodon for probably five weeks I think. I started at 40 mg and have been on 60 mg I think for almost three weeks. About two weeks ago I started having severe dizziness early evening everyday. Two days ago I was half awake half asleep and part of my body was tightening up and would stop and then do it again. I remember my neck doing it and I couldn't scream out for help. I finally woke up and it was done. I was alarmed, it might have been a nightmare or something. Now I'm having muscle twitching and tightness in my legs, mostly left leg. Has this happened to anyone? And could this happen after being on it for awhile? I desperately want this med to work.

That's part of what happened to me on the drug I was on over the summer. It's part of EPS and you need to let your pdoc know it is happening. There are meds to help it (cogentin is most common. I also used valium this summer, especially when I first had the problem because it was painful until the cogentin built-up. I didn't recognize what it was and kept making excuses "I've been hunched over the sewing machine." "I slept funny". "The dog must have really pulled on his walk" etc. so it went on for weeks and got pretty bad). You shouldn't let it go on without the pdoc knowing because in rare cases it can turn into tardive dyskinesia which is permanent.
I had this on Geodon although the biggest symptom I had was uncontrollable oral motor movements. I wound up stopping it at the time (because we had no idea I'd have trouble with every AAP except Seroquel and that we couldn't "waste" them) but with the meds it can be controlled.

My legs hurt so bad. This has been going on for about seven hours that I know of. My anxiety is through the roof, Xanax isn't even touching it. I hope I can go on congentin, Geodon has to work. I'm allergic to four APs, and I really don't want to go back on Seroquel. I see my pdoc on Tuesday, he wanted to see me about the severe dizziness before making any adjustments.
Is it possible for this to happen after being on it for five weeks? Thanks everyone for your input.

I was on loxapine for quite a while before it became painful enough that I realized it was a problem, even though I knew to be looking for it and had a script for cogentin in my purse. I think 2 months or so and the soreness probably started around 4 weeks, maybe sooner. And when I had EPS from Geodon I'd been on it probably 3-4 months. It usually happens early in treatment but "early" isn't defined and also there are always outliers.

I saw my pdoc today and he said it is akathasia. He said we could try a new med or stay on Geodon and use a med to help with the akathasia. I really like Geodon so he put me on Requip. They use it for Restless Leg Syndrome. I'm taking my first dose tonight and he upped the Geodon to 80 mg. I was hearing things the other day again. The dizziness is from he thinks the Propranolol, my blood pressure is dropping to low, not from the Geodon. I will update you how things are going. I really like Geodon so far, especially the sleep. Hopefully this works.
