My doctor suggested ECT to me today. And I want to know as much as I can before agreeing to it. Any as advice would be greatly appreciated.

It worked really well for me both times I had it, but I lost a lot of memory. I also felt like my cognitive functioning was impaired afterward for about six months. But to me it was worth it.

worth it. I had some discomfort (neck, jaw, and muscle) after the first treatment but none onwards. My memory of the period of time over the course of treatments isn't so good but that is the only loss I experienced.

Yes, it Is pretty major but I really believe in it and what it did for me. It usually isn't a permanent fix though. I've gone through two courses of tratments in 3 years. Some people receive maintenance treatmens following up a course.

Was it scary? No. I was more concerned about the IV than I was the procedure. I was up and walking about an hour later.
