Hello everyone. I've had a long battle with the social security administration, beginning in 2012. I was denied in 2012 which left me feeling lost. I went and appealed and was denied again, which left me hopeless. I went an applied a second time, and my case got closed due to lost paperwork in the mail. They said they had never received it. I reapplied a 3rd time. This time I faxed and mailed paperwork, and by the grace of God I received a letter in the mail saying I won! This Source of income really helped me and my family. I just had to share my story with you all. Do not give up hope!

Yaaaay! I tried, but failed the interview because an other part No_one showed up and couldn't answer a question, like "describe a normal day.....uuuuuh..."

I too am so disappointed that I don't even want to try again, maybe later.

I'm happy to see that someone won.
Thanks for this!

Try again. If you don't have a case manager through your docs office ask abt it. Mine has been helpful. Although I did all the paperwork myself he was in my corner. He helped me info in my file. Don't give up. I've struggled so much and many ppl do.

I was told this from jump and it happened to me the first time. If your denied appeal it when you do you will have a hearing (court). You may be asked to go to one of their docs. I was not asked to because I had so much medical records from different sources (pdocs, therapists, and three mental health hospitals). One clinic I went to had a emergency hotline. They would track all the calls you made and let your doc know, this also helped me. I have a cousin going through the hearing process and I tell her to relax and answer the questions. Don't let the judge make you nervous and you panic.

What's making getting disability so hard lately is that when the stock market semi crash a few years ago, most everyone and their pet got on to disability. Now it's tougher trying to weed out the non disabled.

Yikes, I didn't know I would have to go to court. I have a thick file too, 6 hospitalizations in the last 14 months at 3 different hospitals plus 3 PHPs, a pdoc and 3 therapists. I also have a lawyer through my LTD provider. I just need SSDI long enough so that I can get stable. It sucks that people abuse the system and those of us who are really sick have to jump through hoops to get the benefits we've already paid into.

I know that is often true but don't get too wrapped up in that. I was approved in 13 weeks and while I was my county's first mental illness approval that fast a new program has made it a lot faster for a lot of people.

I thought there was no way I'd be approved so quickly (because I had no evidence anyone ever was for mental illness and my state was very, very slow and years behind on appeals at the time; it was so bad they had judges from other states doing appeals via skype) and had made myself adjust to this negative view that I was going to be on food stamps and medicaid (which I never even got onto because it took so long for the application to process) for years and instead it was just weeks.

So I guess I'm saying prepare for it to be a while but don't be certain it will be since it isn't always. I don't know that there is any good indicator of who gets the fast approvals; apparently it is done via computer that looks at the documentation and uses some algorithm that says "this person will 100% not be denied, don't bother reviewing". But it still seems somewhat random who gets that kind of approval.

It is uncertain and not always a denial off the top or an approval off the top. I've had both. First time I applied I received a denial in three months. I appealed had to wait a year to go to court. I was denied again from court. Second time well case closed due to paperwork formality. Third time I was approved in seven weeks!!!

Congratulations!

I was denied the first time. I got a lawyer and submitted years worth of mental health records, and I was approved on the appeal.

Like you said...don't give up!

Yes when I put in my third application I had a years worth of records too. I hated the waiting the year to re-apply but it was well worth it.

I was approved the first time I applied, but normally people have to apply at least twice. Right now I'm on SSI, but in about a month or so it will switch to disability (I applied for adult child disability). It's a lot more money each month which means I can move out and try to be more independent.

Oh yes I'm familiar with people being switched over. I'm really glad for you. I know a few people on SSI and the income is lower. Enjoy your new place and sense of independence.

Thank u so much for congrats. It's been a long hard road so some people can relate but others can not. I've been hunted down by bill collects, moving out of state due to my illness making me lose my job. I tried to hold on but I was about to be homeless. So I moved in with a family member which I'm grateful but with a MI was no cake walk. I did manage to get my own place last winter then crap got real this summer. I started getting utility bills of $130 that normally were $70. My electric was almost cut off twice. I'm behind in my water bill. My car has almost been repo'd twice too. This SSDI is a blessing for me.

I remember when my SSDI came in. We were down to our last $200 in savings and were living on my husband's Social Security check of $679 per month. We were all but homeless---staying with a lady who rented us a room for $450 per month. Then that first big check arrived and life got better immediately.

So glad you finally won your long battle.

Thank you. My mom has been my rock. She's been the one to save my car from being repo'd. Me and my two daughters lived off of $623 per month. My car was the death of me but I couldn't let it go I had lost everything to this condition. I knew if I could hold out a little long all would be ok. I had worked so hard to get the car it's just a Honda sedan. But it took me four years (two jobs later) to be able to afford that type of car payment. I plan on paying half my car off and making the remaining ten payments. I can't wait for the arrival hell they don't have to mail it to me....just get it to my local SSA office and I'll come to them!!

I was denied and went to a lawyer who only does disability cases.

He did my appeal and thought we'd have to go to court but I was approved on first appeal!

I submitted 9 years of medical records

That was so awesome! I went through hell but my attorney sucked. After I went to court and lost I went to another attorney. She looked over my file and gave me advice. Then told me to come back to her if I lost and she'd help with the appeal. I told myself she was a nice lady BUT I didn't plan on needing her. I filed my new case and it did get closed but I didn't lose. I filed again and here I am.
I had records only going back to 2012. But I had a new dx (schizoaffective disorder) added last yr and the attorney advised to focus on that because that's when I really started having really bad systems.
