So my pdoc went with bipolar with psychosis as my diagnosis. Not sure where I'm going with this post really. I understand the psychosis part but I haven't had any major mood swings in a while. Maybe the medicine is holding me down? Idk.. I do know I hear things all the time. And see things. And have voices. Are there others here that deal with these same things? But maybe no major mood swings? I think I have mood swings on a smaller scale. Up for a few days and back down. I'm not really sure...

You might be schizoaffective w/ BP2 or depression subtype.

Severe mood episodes can cause psychosis, but being a little "up" for a few days should not be bringing on visual and auditory hallucinations. That doesn't make much sense to me.

So I would more so suspect a stand-alone psychotic disorder combined with a milder mood disorder.

Just based on my understanding of what I have read.

Hi Calypso-- you say you haven't had any major mood swings in a while. Does this coincide with when you started on the meds you refer to? I haven't had major mood swings since I've been on a mood stabilizer, I think everyone experiences different degrees of mood swings, and from what you say I think maybe your meds are muting yours. I'd definitely talk to my pdoc about it though. Since he or she diagnosed you with bipolar you should definitely talk to him about the mood swings.

I usually associate psychosis as a symptom of mania in bipolar, but you seem to be in doubt of having any real mood swings, especially mania.

You would think psychosis as a standalone would be indicative to skitzophrenia which is treatable with anyone-psychotics like Seroquel.

What meds are you taking?

Asks a non professional in the art of psychiatry, just affected.

My meds are Invega, Effexor, Tenex, Topamax, and Xanax. I've been working with my doc for 7 years and my illness has evolved. The most recent being the psychosis in the last couple years. Bipolar was my original diagnosis and I did cycle with mania. It's just been a while I guess since I've had a manic episiotomy I guess. The response to my post really has me thinking. Thank you.
