I have been in hospital over 20 times. Mostly to stabilize me when I am in dangerous epidodes - usually the dreaded mixed episodes. It has been happening less often since I have been receiving proper treatment.

I've been hospitalized 14 times. Mainly because of suicidal or homicidal thoughts.

One time, psychosis. They wanted me to stay in IP for a few days but it wasn't forced on me so I went home after a few hours.

Three times. First -two for weeks the last -three or four days. I've been to 23 hour holds three times too. The first two hospitalization -were bc of mixed episodes. The third-mania. I received great care at the first hospital and the 23 hold place. They were caring and very clean.

Ip 7 times, crisis center 5 times and php/Iop once. All mostly due to depression/suicidal and then turning into cycling. Some for mixed episodes though.

15 I think, almost all for severe suicidal depression/mixed episodes. All of those admissions occurred during a very unstable 9 years of my life. I am glad to be able to say I've been stable now for about two years and don't foresee things ever getting that out of hand again.

I've been to hospital 3 times.

Jan 2012 - The first was severe anxiety and depression. They kept me a grand total of 4 days. I really think it should have been a lengthy stay.
Jun 2012 - anxiety and depression. 4 weeks
Jun-Jul 2015 - depression - 8 weeks

I very nearly went back again earlier this fall.

Dozens of times. Mostly due to multiple Dx that complicated everything. Plus I don't think some of them should count as I was released due to insurance orders not because the doctors thought I was ready. So 1-3 days later I was back in. I was extremely dissociative with complex PSTD and bipolar. I think some of the medicine increased the dislocated symptoms and made it harder to move forward. After many years of therapy I'm now much better, on less medication and if I need a hospital in the future I see it happening only for the severe depression episodes that life CW me in bed.
For the psychosis most of those times I wasn't really aware that I was put in hospitals for 72 HR holds. In one two year period I was hospitalized 9 times. In anougher almost monthly as my period affected my psychosis.

I've never been in the hospital, but have had my therapist suggest I need to be. I'm too stubborn and poor for that crap.

Just once due to suicidal ideation/intent, but I barely escaped hospitalization during a couple of manic episodes. I had a good experience but hope I don't have to go back.

4, all for different reasons. First was to come off AD and go on an MAOI (plus was suicidal going off the first AD). Second was severe akathesia and mania after I had surgery and apparently was given something that my brain didn't approve of. Third was suicidal plan. Fourth was suicidal b/c of coming off an AP that had been working somewhat but causing a dangerous side effect at the same time that my other meds were lowered. I made a mistake that time; I didn't want to stay the weekend and the dr. said he was on the fence about it so I decided to come home. I should have stayed the extra days. But I never got better after those med changes anyway. I'm probably going to be going in for a 5th one sometime soon to get off Seroquel and go on Clozaril.

I don't feel as bad anymore reading some of these responses. I've been embarrassed about the fact that I've been in 20 times. That's including six times as a teenager though. Most times were for self injury or suicidal ideation. Once for psychosis.

11 times. Last one was 2 years ago. 7 year break before then. I think I did a 2 year period going every 6 months. The last one was for mania. All the rest for severe depression. Sometimes because of overdosing. Once my psychologist called the police on me and I went that way. I would like to think I will never go again but have to accept the fact that there is a good possibility it can happen again. I've also been php twice.

I'm not the person who started this thread but I assume like many of its' type on here it is curiosity, comparing experiences and a chance to share a little about what this illness is about.

Why does the purpose matter any more than the purpose of any of a thousand threads like this?

I've been once, only because I accessed a memory alter that caused me to dissociate and meltdown, so I drank a bottle of liquor on top of non working meds and SH. I was a mess.
