I had a stressful couple months at my job then a really big stressful event. After the really stressful event I have needed about six hours of sleep for the past two nights (instead of 8-9 when depressed). I also worked longer hours this weekend than usual. I do enjoy the work I was doing this weekend even when depressed but I can see how these are all warning signs. Even though I like being less depressed (my usual state) I hate mania and the crash (I am bp-1). I am striving for more stability as I go into my 2nd year post diagnosis. I am on my meds. Does anyone have good coping strategies for keeping oneself from going up?

When I feel like I'm going up my main concern is getting enough sleep. My pdoc has me take a Seroquel PRN when I'm up, which covers the sleep issue and also gives me an extra dose of an antipsychotic.

For on the spot relief when I feel like I'm getting carried away, I take deep breathes and exhale slowly a few times to calm down. I also blow the dust off my Respiradal PRN and maybe take one.

My pdoc just has me take extra APs. But I haven't been even hypomanic since the early spring so it hasn't been necessary.

Cut back on any caffeine?
Do yoga or meditation, just 5 minutes to chill? Do the PRNs?
