I've only been on lamictal for 6 days but I've noticed a spot on my thigh has been very itchy. It looked like a mosquito bite, but now the itching has spread and it isn't in that exact spot anymore. I doubt this is anything to worry about but I just want to make sure. Can a lamictal rash look or feel like a mosquito bite? There aren't mosquitoes around here anymore since it's winter, and I've been wearing long pants so it's a bit odd.

I would call / go see your doctor just to be safe. That's what my pdoc said to do because the rash caused by Lamictal is serious business.

Yep, call the dr. Probably best to hold your dose tonight if you haven't taken it just to be sure. It is probably fine but always check and just tell him it looks like a bite but you wanted to be sure. Around here we've been getting spider bites as they move inside (a little later than usual this year since it has been warm).

I'll call her in the morning. I take my meds mid-afternoon so it'll be some time before my next dosage anyway. I've been putting anti-itch cream on it and it seems to be working but I'll still call to make sure. I always get this feeling in the back of my mind that I'd be annoying her or acting overly paranoid by calling her even though I know it's her job to monitor me.

When you are starting lamictal I think that they should expect at least one call about "could this be??". Better that than not. My first time on it I never had a question. The only side effect I had going on was some nasty headaches for a few days. (And because I was in a clinical trial I may have been on it and taken off and then put back on although we were pretty certain I was on the placebo which would have meant that I just went from placebo to open-label lamictal).
Don't worry about calling. Pdocs are pretty used to calls between visits and should be fine with them. A pdoc not ok with calls about meds is a warning sign.

Today I don't feel any itching unless the area is touched, which makes me think it really is just a bug bite. I checked and it doesn't seem to have visibly spread afterall, and that new area has stopped itching too. I'm going to hold off on the phone call until a few days later simply because she usually can't get back to me until after I've already taken my meds anyway

Are you a worrier in general? It's a good sign that it hasn't spread and stopped itching-- that would certainly indicate it's more likely to be a mosquito bite. But if you decide not to call I'd monitor in closely-- and remember to check your back as well. Good luck with this-- I hope it turns out to be nothing, because lamictal has been a huge help to me.

I got the lamictal rash, and it was reddish purple and hurt like a burn to the touch. It started on my thighs and spread. I went to the ER and the doctor took me off the lamictal right away. He said I did the right thing coming in. Maybe go get it checked out? Better to be safe than sorry.

It's still there, but it's not as red and doesn't seem to be itching anymore. Guess it really was just a mosquito bite. I probably scratched it too hard, which made it appear a lot redder than other bites I've had before

I think I said this but we've had spider bites (both my mom and I) this year because the temperatures have stayed so warm and the spiders are just now feeling they need to come inside and apparently this leads to bites. I think each of us has had a couple although one of mine happened when I was taking down some 6 ft. tall weeds that were probably full of spiders. And those things are really itchy.
