BP Novel

I am thinking of writing a book that is mainly about bipolar disorder. I think it will be a murder mystery. Perhaps the detective will be BP.

What do you think? Any suggestions?

murder mysteries can be interesting, though for me that all depends on the speed of the mystery and how quick things unfold

Besides a bp character and the genre, what is the novel going to be about?

I haven't worked it out yet, but it will probably be about a murder that takes place in a small coastal town similar to the one in which I live. Perhaps the victim will be a teacher at the regional high school... The homicide detective assigned to the case will be an undiagnosed bipolar, and this will sometimes complicate and sometimes enhance his abilities to solve the case, depending on his or her mood at the time. Eventually he gets a diagnosis and treatment, and he discovers that losing the manic side of his personality prevents him from making the brilliant deductions that helped him solve previous cases. So, while the book will primarily be a murder mystery, it will also serve as a informational account of bipolar disorder itself.

I can't imagine taking on such a project right now, but I'm excited for your idea and applaud your creative efforts! It sounds interesting.

I think this is a great idea! I was just talking with a friend the other day about how the stigma against mental illness could be combated by people who have an MI write about it. I know a lot of people do, but the more the merrier, and anything that could reach a wider audience would be awesome. Btw did you ever see the show Black Box? It was quickly cancelled, sadly. But it was about a neurologist who had bipolar. I thought it gave a good, honest depiction of what the disorder can be like. Anyway, the best of luck with your novel. When you get going on it maybe you can post some excerpts here to get feedback on.
