So I have been sliding into depression this past couple of weeks and I want to stop it. So far today I have used a light box, read my Bible, took a walk in the sun, drew zentagles, wrote a compassionate letter to myself, spent time with hubby and ate junk food. So why do I feel like crying? Why is it that no matter what I do the depression creeps in? What else can I do?

Hi alin. Sorry you are sliding into depression. Have you considered meds or talk therapy? If you have those already contact the providers and tell them about your slide before it gets worse.

If you want to do a little self help you might consider this.
For me I have to start the day with exercise like yoga just to get out of bed. It gives me energy and feeling better. If you are okayed by your doc for exercise, check out this intro

There are 30 others adrienne offers, all free.

For me lifestyle changes fit big in my recovery hopes.

I have to watch what I eat because foods I eat can stabilize my moods or exaggerate them. A high protein low carb diet with snacks or meals every 3-4 hours will over time reduce my swings. I also avoid alcohol and recreational drugs because those can really increase depression.

Other lifestyle changes that help me are doing yoga, exercises, mindfulness, calm music, and being active on Psych Central.

I'm sorry but understand your frustration. I have depression that creeps in no matter what I do. Sounds like you are doing a lot of good things that should help but sometimes depression just happens anyway.

I hope you continue to try various ways to combat it. Because you can't tell when the next thing you do might work.
