Went to my first bipolar (& etc) support group tonight. Seems the bipolar people were mostly off seeing a screening of touched with fire, but I had a hard time telling the bipolar/not apart. Anyone had much luck with them? Trying to look at building better coping strategies and community for myself now. This time of year is always poor for me.

I've never been to one. Kinda sounds like the bp folks off together have an established group, sounds fun. Would be cool if they could know you're new & give you some extra attention. I say give it some more tries, you'll all get to know each other & bond, can take a little time.

I never showed up when I was supposed to go to them... Honestly I get f'd up enough when I read about other people's problems on these forums and the facebook groups. I didn't want to deal with it in person. I do better on my own anyhow. Not sure what my point was, I forgot.

Yes. I've met wonderful friends in my NAMI DBSA weekly support group. It's Free!
We meet and each person has 6 min talk and feedback time. One girls daughter was getting married in New York and she was planning a big trip. A guy had tickets to the Rolling Stones concert. Some people share about their parents and visiting old folks home. It's not just whining and complaining. It's active fun and interesting! I go every week when I'm in CA. And keep in touch by eml while I'm here in Costa Rica. Pura Vida

I went to a DBSA group once back in November, it was pretty helpful but the location of the meeting was a pain in the *** to get to due to evening traffic in the area so I haven't gone back since. I thought the meeting was a good way to hear others' experiences with BP and depression but one guy (who came in late btw) went on for way too long and tended to dominate the last 20 minutes of the meeting.
