I was reading articles about caffeine, wondering if any of my mental and physical health problems could be caused by the fact that I drink on average 5-8 cups of coffee per day.

So yeah...headaches, high blood pressure, anxiety, irritability...

One I had know clue about is it can cause you to have symptoms of psychosis! I found that interesting.

How much caffeine do you guys drink?

I drink maybe 32oz of diet soda a day. Sometimes less. I can't have caffeinated coffee or tea because it upsets my stomach and makes me really shaky and weak. But the amount of caffeine in soda doesn't bother me.

I drink about 3 cups of coffee a day during the week. Don't drink any caffeine after 5:00pm so as to be able to sleep normally.

I used to avoid caffeine because it can cause anxiety but I haven't really had any issues with that lately.

I'm on your boat where I drink about 8 cups of coffee in the morning, then in the afternoon- I switch to green tea. Overall, my diet has a lot of room for improvement but I haven't noticed coffee contributing to mania. If anything, coffee has really helped me be focused at work.

Here's an article about bipolar and coffee:

I used to exist off of sodas and energy drinks! Of course I know they're bad for me, but I was always tired. And I don't like the smell or taste of coffee. But then med adjustments allow me to stay up during the day without wanting to be asleep all day.

Three strong cups of coffee plus a few teas on average every day. I find they help me focus but I do get some anxiety at times I have too much.

In the past I quit caffeine for months thinking it would be better for my health but I noticed no difference except that I was more tired.

I could drink coffee all day. I generally have 2 cups in the morning and one more in the afternoon, then drink iced tea or soda the rest of the day. Gotta have my caffeine, even if I have to resort to taking some Excedrin Migraine (which has caffeine in it as well as painkillers). I'm hopelessly addicted.

I think one has to have a serious amount of caffeine for that to happen, rather like drinking a lot of alcohol can.

I have 3 double cappuccinos a day to keep me awake. If I stop for just one day I get a horrible headache and function worse than usual.

My psychotic episodes are often not mood related, and having my coffee doesn't seem to make any difference, but stopping it... That is when things get wobbly. I get more anxious and paranoia seems to be worse.

I wonder if coffee is a cause of my problems, too. I drink 2-3 cups before noon, then move on to decaf or water.

I have never been able to quit.

I prefer hot drinks myself except in the summer. Coffee and tea is mostly what I drink.

My T is happy with my 3 cups a day. I have no desire or reason to quit

I drink 4 cups of coffee a day, and haven't noticed any problems related to anxiety or psychosis… I'm the most stable that I've been in a long time. Interestingly enough, the only thing I notice when I don't have the caffeine is that I'm tired. So I guess I'm just strange that way.
Thanks for this!

2 cups a day with Soy Milk. I'd say this is my average.

Sometimes I'd drink way more and drink energy drinks and do stupid stuff ~ doesn't do good eventually.
I think 5-8 cups of coffee it's plenty and way too much for a bipolar

I do a pot of coffee a day. Like 3 large cups. Stop by 4pm and compensate by drinking the same amount at least in water too. Together around 150 oz a day.

Coffee calms be down not energizing at all.

None. I quit two years ago.
I was drinking about 12 large cups of coffee a day.
I went cold turkey and had a headache for two weeks.
I don't miss it

Last I had was in 2007 when I realized I was using it to push mania. I stopped cold turkey and after that never let myself go there again. I figure a cup of coffee now would make me take flight.
