I'll be your valentine too.
I was thinking about my cat as a blessing so she can collectively be ours too.

We don't even celebrate this day. It's just a gimmick. Stores make money. There's nothing really special about looking at a calendar and saying hey I gotta tell everyone I love them because the population says so. It's like going to church once a year when you know darn well you don't even pray. The best bouquet, appreciation, hug, comes when you least expect it. Not when the calendar says so!

No matter how small, a positive change deserves to be celebrated!
Thanks for this!

I completely agree. I would actually be really annoyed if my husband brought home chocolate or flowers on valentines day because it costs so much money. We have a fun little party with our kids where they make valentines for their cousins, etc. but as for the day itself for adults, it seems like it's much more meaningful to receive a gift or go out on a date when you aren't "expected" or "required" to do so.
Thanks for this!

When I was a teenager this holiday meant the world to me. Now that I'm older I couldn't care less. My husband usually gets me something, so I figure this year I'll surprise him. I got him tickets to see Deadpool and his mom is going to watch the kids. This will be the first year out of five that I've done something for him.

im not big on Valentine's Day but my husband used to get me a box of sea salt caramels from the candy shop in town. This will be the first year without them. I could just buy them for myself but I really wish my husband were here. I didn't think I'd miss him as much as I do since we never really celebrated.

Well...my bf has disappeared...and if he resurfaces again I'll be breaking things off...god I hope I don't have to do that tomorrow...so boooo Valentine's Day...

On a positive note, I'm going with my parents to my favorite Mexican joint for dinner tomorrow. Nothing cures the relationship blues like margaritas and quacamole.

Set holidays are where we celebrate things we claim to value, do and seek out all the time anyway. They tend to stir things up if we realize something is missing in our daily lives.

When I was in Elementary School, all the kids would bring their Valentine cards to school. The teacher would have everyone put them in a big box. Then she would pull them out one by one, having the kid come up and get the Valentine.

The humiliation was terrible, sitting there watching the popular girls and boys get up 30 times for their Valentines and myself and the other losers getting up only a few times to get Valentines from only our few friends or the kids whose mothers had enough class to make them give cards to the entire class.

Schools don't do that cr*p anymore. Can you believe how dumb that was?

I don't have anyone to celebrate with either. I just say my cat is my bae. And I get to work anyway, so I won't be thinking about it. But I sort of wish I could see Deadpool with someone.

Holidays to me are a good reason to break the monotony of everyday life. You could see them as just an excuse for corporations to make money. Or you could view it in a positive light and see it as a day to acknowledge love, something many of us forget to do on a daily basis throughout the year. I use to make cards for my friends every year to make them feel special. But I was an artsy-fartsy type. So I didn't buy into buying things but made them from the heart.

We don't celebrate Valentines Day any more. It seems like such a waste. Too with money being short it just impossible to celebrate.

I don't have a romantic partner to be my valentine, but I am hanging with some other single friends to make it less ******... hopefully. I'm expecting them to bail on me though.

You could write each other poetry. That doesn't cost anything. That's what I would do, because I'm horrifically broke myself. LOL. I bought my dad and I a small $7 cake at Wal-mart because that's all I could afford. With mom out of town and my parents broke, they don't celebrate either. But they're not very romantic. It's kind of an empty marriage.

I don't / didn't have a valentine either. Never have. I don't celebrate made up nonsense and thank God my bf doesn't either.

I figure if you love me, love me everyday, and if anyone needs a specific date to celebrate, its called an anniversary.
