I'm probably going to be coming off zyprexa bc of weight gain. And I'm just curious what APs you guys are on and what side effects you have if any. Thanks...

I'm on Seroquel and it has caused pre-diabetes and not by weight gain. This is the third time I've been on it. I've tried I believe all of the APs and have been allergic to most or severe side effects. I tried all those times getting off of a Seroquel because of the diabetes, but it's the only one that works for me. Looks like I'm stuck on Seroquel and diabetes medication. I wish you good luck.

I'm taking Rexulti. I haven't been taking it long but haven't noticed any side effects yet.

I take Invega sustenna and I have no noticeable side effects. It quashes all mania and psychosis. At worst I get slightly - slightly - hypomanic, which ends in a couple of days. If only it would work for depression too.

Seroquel - weakness of muscles, weight gain
Olanzapine (Zyprexa) - weight gain

Now I am on Saphris and all good so far after one month. It does make me drowsy so I take it just before I go to bed. Tastes horrible though!

Abilify. It has worked for me for a couple years. I haven't noticed any side effects. The Mayo Clinic reports "It appears that aripiprazole, lurasidone and ziprasidone are more weight neutral than the others, but that can vary from person to person."

Seroquel. One word. Fat.

I've been on all of the atypicals, except for risperdal and the newer ones, like latuda, because I can't afford them. I was even on haldol, but that gave me akathesia.

I liked geodon the most. It made me lose weight. And it worked very well. But in the end it gave me heart problems, so I had to go off of it.

Been on latuda in the past, it seemed good, no weight gain. Would that possibly be a seroquel alternative?

Thanks everyone. I think I'm gonna ask about abilify and invega. Latuda gave me really bad akathasia and geodon.

Again thanks.

Im on geodon i have no side effects at all. I take it st night with a light snack. No weight gain. All others such as ability have made me gain major weight and seroquil as well. After 3 years i am finally losing most oof it. I still have 20 to go. I went from 130 to 195 with seroquil and ability back to back. Geodon has not had a weight gain effect on me. No other effects either. My intimate life seems very normal which I may be in my prime im not sure I'm 37. With seroquil all i did was eat and sleep. I could not stop my self from eating like a man. Abilify just brought on more weight without the eating. I finally found a wonderful psychiatrist that understands that weight gain does in fact bring on depression. So my meds are geodon and oxcarbaxapine also topomax as a mood stabilizer and i did get frequent migranes. At first I had brain fog from it but it went away. I have been stable a long time now and this year has been the roughest year in my personal life stress wise. Stress is what triggers my cycling and so far so good. I am very pleased!

Abilify might work out well for you. Gave me the akathisia (hate that!!). But I think you & I react opposite on the akathisia over the years. Darn meds

Yeah, I'm preparing myself for akathisia. It's so horrible. I got it so bad on latuda. Josh is like, when you get it can you not bother me about it, lol. I guess I really tell him how much agony I'm in when I have it. Just gotta make sure I have congentin and proponal on hand...It's gonna suck.

Is akathisia where you don't feel your emotions? If so that is what ultimately made me go off my meds by myself for about 6 months. Then i went to my current dr where I was placed on my meds,i am on now. I could not handle not feeling anything.

I'm on Rexulti and Seroquel together and I have only noticed weight gain from the Seroquel.

I have been on Latuda but it didn't completely get rid of the voice, so we switched. It was also combined with Seroquel and I had less weight gain and no problems with it, other than it barely worked.

May I suggest trying Zyprexa Zydis if regular Zyprexa works for you? Regular Zyprexa makes me gain weight like crazy, but the Zydis version caused no weight gain at all!

I'm currently on Latuda and Seroquel (Seroquel just for sleep), but I've been on Geodon and Abilify as well. Geodon caused a horrible tremor -- so bad it could've been mistaken that I had Parkinson's even though I was like 21, and Abilify made me almost suicidally depressed after just a few weeks. Needless to say, I will never go back on either one of those.

Are APs needed for maintenance? I was on Zyprexa but I stopped. I gained 15lbs and lost my period. I want to just be on Lithium. Is that unheard of?

No, it's not at all unheard of.

I personally need an AP for my mood stabilizer...anticonvulsants don't work very well for me...so that means I'm always on something like Zyprexa or Latuda.

My first AP was Abilify the first time I was on it was too activating and caused me to stop sleeping which spiraled from there. Then I was on Latuda which worked pretty good for a while it would cause me to throw up from time to time though. Then it stopped working and I landed in a pretty bad depression that sent me IP. While I was there I got started back on Abilify again, this time it cause stomach issues so they added Protonix which resolved that. Hands were a little shaky at first but that went away. That could of been the withdrawal from Latuda as they stopped it suddenly. Either way Abilify is seeming to work pretty good this time around being on it.
