I'm in CR. My regular Dentist is in USA.
I lost part of my filling and the side of the tooth biting into a prune pit. This was 2 Sunday's ago. I was getting company from the USA, so I postponed an appointment with a Dentist down here. I'm off opioids , but for dental work I've always needed them, I have a rare gum condition. Anyway, I'm scared. I can't seem to make a decision. I have only one guy to drive me to the city. I'm getting paranoid because I will need to find someone to watch the house and pets if I leave. I just lay on the couch and worry. I did make 2 calls to see what appointments were available. One other problem. One time a long time ago I lost a filling and went to a Costa Rican dentist. He used some weird cement. When I got back to the US, my regular dentist couldn't believe it. He had to drill it all out. Making the cavity bigger and refill. Crap. I don't want to return to the USA. I just made a special trip to Florida so I could stay here in CR for another 90 days. I have a plane ticket for May 6. The tooth doesn't hurt. But I got an earache on that side. But it may have come from swimming. When I try to read about this online- advice is usually see dentist imediatately. Sometimes tourists actually come here specifically for dental work as it's cheaper than the states. One other thing. I have dental insurance in the States. If I need a crown I think they only cover part. This is making me feel manic and depressed. I don't know what I want or should do???

Ocean, I got teeth problems too. The saddest part is that I think the appointment was today. But since my wife isn't here I didn't want to find out. My dentist uses a white stuff that doesn't hurt. But I don't think it lasts either.
Making decisions, what's that. I've been to the store 3 times to buy clothes and have come back empty. And now.... AND NOW!!! I'm proud to announce I TOOK A SHOWER!!! Last edited by pirilin; Feb 23, 2016 at 03:52 PM. |

I have weeks like that. Showers seem impossible.
I know how hard decisions can be, everyone in my support group in CA talks about it. Congrats on getting cleaned up. I'm supposed to go swimming now in high tide. I have 15 min to talk myself into it

I'm really sorry to hear about your tooth, I think the most important thing is, is there pain?
If Not possibly you can wait only because you have the rare gum condition Don't let any dentist in CR bully you if you get a checkup you don't have to get the work done there unless your completely comfortable is their anywhere you can get a recommendation for a dentist in CR? Best of luck Ocean |

Thanks Cole. I did get a few recommendations. I'm still scared though. And indecisive.
What a drag for this to happen. It won't matter. Cause if they don't take credit cards and it's going to be something like $2000.00 I don't have that much cash or money in bank anyway. I found out a friend who was paying or supposed to pay my elec bill embezzled $1027.

Sounds like a really difficult decision. Tooth, dentist, CR, USA, pain, fear, indecision, house, pets, transportation, embezzlement! And then there's that broken tooth that doesn't go away. If taking care of yourself is at the top of your priorities, get it looked at, find out what the options are, then get your ducks in a row, and get the tooth fixed. Doesn't that sound easy? Nope, and that's why it's hard to take a step. So, I guess my advice is to just take another step towards fixing the tooth. Hope it gets better for you soon.

Thanks Violet Green. I need to chose to wait till May and deal with the gum condition possible other cavities and cleaning and fixing tooth by my specialist.
Only problem. Husband thinks opioids cause Episodes. I'm not on them now. I took a few when I first got down here. Found the bottle in a jacket pocket. I've bought them when I was here in CR without a script. I don't know if I can suffer dental work with just plain aspirin
