First it was 10 yrs on crystal meth.
Don't know if she smoked pot then too.
But she's 6 days off pot. I think she's probably smoked 30 years or more.
She's a rager. Gets in super bad moods and gets super duper MAD.
Don't know if being off pot will help or make her worse. I'll see her in May.

That's so sad. It sounds like she is really struggling.

She's coping. Manages a 43 unit apartment building and supervises all of the repairs and improvements.
Has a 97 yr old boyfriend who lives part time with her and part time in care center. She buys all of his clothes. Drives him to all Dr appts. Church. Social functions.
I don't smoke pot. So I don't know if her rage will increase or decrease without the pot. She's obese too.

She will likely have mood swings for a while but feel better in the long run. Problem is if she's still doing meth then the pot probably helped. It all depends on how her body reacts to it. Some people use it to get up and get going some to unwind some to just get messed up high. How does she use it? Is she still on meth? If so then the pot is the least of your worries. If it does actually help her then maybe a script is the way to go. If she's off all other drugs except the pot it's her last lifeline to her addictions then mentally it's gonna be hard n from my experience as an addict it's gonna be hard to let that go. So along with the pot withdrawals there's just so many other variables that will affect her moods.

Thanks for this!

No. She gave up Meth 10 years ago.
She's smoked pot almost always. She's 60+.
She's been off pot for 6 days.

That's great! So she's got the will power. Hopefully the mood swings won't last long. My hubby smoked for 15 years he quit about 3 years ago and his lasted about a month. He has no issues with moods or mental instability smoked for arthritis 6'7" grew to fast. So hers might be even worse till its out if her system.

Yes. I don't know if the thc stays in fat cells. She's pretty heavy.
Maybe she'll lose weight without the munchies.

Oh boy... The horrible cycle that self medicating is! I've been to hell and back in that area. Mostly with alcohol that I finally put down last May. Does your friend have a MI that she is coping with? Getting off of meth will cause mood swings and chemical imbalance for up to 2+ years. Depending on how long and how hard of a user she was. At least from what I've been told. If she just recently gave it up then she's in for a ride still. Since it drains dopamine I would suggest a AD like Wellbutrin. If your bothered by the pot then maybe confront her? Most of all, ask her if she's alright mentally. Let her know you do care and that you want her to get help. I gatta tell you that she may not be thrilled about your honesty though. Good luck hun!

Oh. I don't care if people like pot. My husband and she used to smoke together. Now he won't have any. Boo boo.
I just want her to be happy.

What do you think she is self medicating for? Really hard to watch someone who has serious rages try to medicate with pot, that's obviously not cutting it. Will she go to a doctor or therapist?

I'm not sure. It will depend on how she handles rage and temper tantrums when she's not doing pot all of the time.

So does smoking help her? If so why does she want to quit? Does she live in a state she can get a script for it?

Yes. She had a marijuana medical card. Then the dispensary kept selling to her with out renewing the card.
Then she started buying from her son. Cheaper. High quality.
But she fights with him and he's very disrespectful.
I think she wants to quit because of her faith.

I did that for 30 years as well but never knew I was bipolar until last year. Quitting substance abuse has been freedom for me. At a minimum, it gives me clarity.

I don't smoke myself makes me batshit crazy! but really hate that it's not legal and at acceptable rates in every state. My hubby has so much pain but must kill his liver with ibuprofen everyday cause he can't chance drug testing at work. Gma smoked for fibro pain but now lives in an elderly apartment complex so now she's drinking to mask the pain. I understand ur friend quitting for faith to each their own I just find it sad that at our fingertips is a natural remedy that helps a lot of people but stigma and the law keeps it away. But alcohol is readily available.

Yes the thc is stored in fat cells but you can get the thc test kits from the store. I can't remember the name but there's a vitamin out there that will help burn it out faster. If I remember I'll let u know.

In CA it's ok. I think you may also be able to grow a few plants. I don't smoke. But it's ok with me if others do.

Niacin is what helps burn the fat cells n is supposed to get it out of system faster. Years ago the guys used to take it with Knox jello before drug tests.

Some ppl have a bad reaction to niacin. This girl in highschool (long ago lol) took it to pass a drug test and broke out in red blotches! Funny seeing that she was the school bully lol. Got a kick out of it. I also drink tons of energy drinks and the can says there's 200% daily value of niacin in each one. So maybe that helps flush me out better. Hmmm.
