Has anyone tried alternative more natural treatments for bipolar? Just curious. I'm tapering off meds as I have mentioned before and was wondering of needed if anyone has tried natural treatments(ex: supplements, diet, etc...)? Just curious.

I told my nutritionist that I was bipolar, and she highly recommended vitamin D to me. My regular doctor told me the same thing.
If you're curious, my nutritionist told me 2000 IU a day is what she recommends. (That amount is safe and healthy.) She said it helps a lot with depression in particular. I only started it taking vitamin D a week ago, so I can't attest to this yet... but I'm hoping it works out well. ![]() |

B12, in fact, B complex balanced at 50 or 100 mg.
I'm going to try the B12 as an add on. The only source is red meat. Which I eat, but not enough. |

I'm not sure if you read casharts thread or not but she talks about how she took supplements originally given to pigs for anger issues. If you can't find the thread then Google "pig pill supplements". It's seemed to help others but between the many pills you have to swallow in a day and the cost of all those vitamins its probably not ideal for me. But it's said to help others so why not check it out!

I'm still on meds...but my pdoc also recommends vit d to help with depression,exercise/walking outdoors to also get vit d/the physical exertion helps with mood pdoc also says the b vitamins for stress-says group of b vit plays role in way body develops neurotransmitters. And pdoc has me using melatonin for sleep vs a sleeping pill. But I would always advise people to have pdoc,md or pharmacist look at your meds medical issues to see how much of which vitamin to take.

I don't know about any treatments as total replacement for therapy and/or meds (for me they are necessary) but I know for any mental illness exercise can help. It helps you feel good physically and mentally. Even just taking a walk everyday gets you out of the house and gives you something to do.
Yoga is good for you, it is healthy plus it teaches relaxation. This past month I have been eating healthy and exercising regularly and it has helped me immensely. I just feel better overall. Having a good routine also helps me, sleeping at the same time each day, etc.

Everything I've tried has come up short. Let me know if you hit one out of the park!
