For those who don't know, at the end of december I OD'd and where I live you have to go to court afterwards and are put on a 90 day hold and have to be med compliant during that time.

During my last appointment I told my pdoc I didn't want to be on an AP anymore and she's been pushing me to go off lamictal and go on depakote which I've repeatedly told her I'm not comfortable doing. She got really mad and threatened to call my social worker.

Anyway, she did! I just got a court letter in the mail that said I broke the 90 day hold because I refused to go on depakote and an AP and I haven't been med compliant because of that. Because of that they're going to put me on a 6 month commitment depending on what these two seperate psychiatrists say who I now have to be evaluated by! And if I end up on the 6 month commitment I have to be completely compliant or they'll throw me in the psych ward!!!

They're going to have to ****ing shove an AP and depakote down my throat because I'm not taking them!

She's ****ing blackmailing me!

If it wasn't a pointless thing to do, I'd call my pdoc's office and leave a message for her that she can ****ing kiss my ***. I'm not going on **** I don't want to be on!

It's because I broke my court ordered ninety day hold by not going on meds I don't want to be on and my pdoc called my social worker and said I'm not being med compliant!

This is horrible. I'm very sorry it's happening to you.
Since now is court matter, is there something a lawyer can do?.
Thanks for this!

Oh man.
That is next level ridiculous! She is basically throwing a tantrum because you want a say in your care! That's unethical!
I'm so sorry

But why were you put on the probation in the first place?

Just for ODing?

And how logical is giving person who ODed more meds?

Get a lawyer and fight this hard. It's violation of basic human rights.

Everyone is put on a probation period where I live if you try to kill yourself.

I didn't think about getting a lawyer. Is that expensive?

There is supposed to be a public defendant office in your county.
If they take they go forward, it should be free.
If the don't, you can consult with a private lawyer.
Most lawyers don't charge for the first visit.
Now, you need to practice and write down everything before
you see either one, so they take your case.
Thanks for this!

You might be able to find one willing to do your case pro bono. Otherwise yes it's probably pretty expensive. However also probably your best bet. I get that they're trying to "help" you but I don't think it's fair to force a person to take meds they don't want to take.

Wow, that's BS. These people think they're doing you a "favor", but it sounds like they're ruining your life instead.

I hope you can get a good lawyer, Raspberry. I would definitely take this case to court.

Sorry you have to go through this.

There may be a legal aide society.

But if this is a state law, then I doubt you'll be able to change it. But get advice.

I used to live in Wisconsin by the way.

You know what I would do, if there's any chance to stay on the 90 day and not get put on the 6 month, I'd lie about being compliant. And if you
Don't want to take the depakote just fill the script and keep quiet. I don't know if it's too late for this strategy, Raspberry. Love ya.

In worst case scenario.... would it be possible just fill the prescription and flush it for 90 days and then work on finding new doctor?

Yeah. I was thinking about just lying, but the problem is that I wouldn't be getting lamictal refills.

I have to get a new pdoc, but it's almost impossible because no one is accepting new patients and I can't even get on any wait lists.

Why is she taking you off it? Risk of ODing on it? It seems to be one of the safer meds generally, from what I heard.

I think even if the law in your state is you have to be in treatment (I still think it's against the human righst charter), I don't think they can force you to be in "treatment" that would endanger your health. You probably have valid reasons for refusing the other drug, eh.

I am totally with you hun .. lamictal is better than depakote a 100 fold ... and I am afraid of ap's , was on geodon and took myself off it ...
but I am afraid you may have to bite the bullet on this one , unless you can convince those two pdoc's you would be better served by lamictal ...

it won't kill you hun .. I know a tough thing to accept ... but sometimes in life we just have to do things we don't like ...

remember being out side even with these meds is better than being on involuntary hold ... for who know how long ...

deep breaths hun ...

you will get thur this ... remember nothing is forever ... just hold on ... eventually it will be your turn again ... .. Tigger

It looks like the NAMI helpline (see NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness | NAMI: The National Alliance on Mental Illness)
might be able to give you some advice.
