I was having immense emotional pain and it is gone now because im on zoloft (haven't got manic yet). But I've noticed I can't feel things like happiness and I feel calm but no emotion. Has anyone else felt this even on an antidepressant?

It will help to know in what other meds are you on.
And if it doesn't, I'm bumping this thread to the top anyway ![]() |

To be honest it could be the lithium. I was a total robot on lithium.

After my 2nd child was born, I had PPD again. I told my doctor, and she prescribed me Zoloft. I felt EXACTLY like you describe - it was awful, and I stopped after about 3 months or so (could have been a little longer or shorter...that whole timeframe is hazy for me). I was so entirely apathetic/robotic/completely unemotional that even when I've been at my worst emotionally since then, my husband has really been anti-medication to manage my symptoms. I've been the same way, until this last few months; I'm wavering now about my resolve to avoid medicating myself.
I wasn't on anything else at that time, and this was before discovering the BP. |

i feel i have no choice but to take the zoloft because I don't want the emotional pain. I hope I can still feel happiness and more emotions.

I'm not bp, but I had the same experience when I first went on antidepressants. I wasn't depressed, but I didn't feel anything else. I put up with the pain for a long time out of fear of that feeling. Can you try a different med?

Would prozac be better? I read it is activating instead of sedating. But when I went on it I became manic and had a lot of fear. But it did make me happier.
