I've been going through a depressive episode (and on a waiting list to see my psychiatrist sooner), so I decided to write a list of mood lifters to share with you and see if you have ideas, too.

Baby steps- do SOMETHING
Remember to eat!
Change of scenery
Notice beauty everywhere you go
Music with heavy bass (in the car, especially)
Vigorous exercise
High caffeine intake (this works for me, may not be healthy for everyone)
Be around people
Do something creative
Dance!
Go for a walk
Call a friend or family member
Window shopping
Go out to eat, even if it's just for a non-alcoholic cocktail or some dessert and make friendly conversation/small talk with your waiter
Watching a funny movie or show

I'd love to hear your mood-lifting ideas, too! Thanks!

I'm sorry you are feeling low. There are different levels and types of depression. In a certain type of depression, a list like this could have the opposite effect.

The number one things on my depression list is: this does not last forever. You are not "always" depressed and you do many happy times.

If my depression isn't too bad, my "pick me ups" are looking through old family photos and petting my dogs. However if my depression is bad, the pictures and the dogs will make me feel guilty for being so weak and I'll end up much worse.

Best of luck. I hope you find things that work for you. (((Hugs)))

Thanks! I'm lucky that my depression is rather mild/ moderate, so I don't deal with the type you're referring to with guilt. I'm trying to catch it NOW before it gets that way by seeing my psychiatrist ASAP. In the meantime, I'll keep doing my mood-lifters.
Thanks for this!

I like your list! I'm just starting to learn the cello, and when I am really down practicing sometimes helps. It sounds so sad like me but is so beautiful, even if all I can do is play notes .

I'm glad your depression is at a mild point. I'm glad to hear you have a strategy of catching it early and I hope this remains successful. Your list is really good and sounds like fun.
