I'm thinking about talking to my pdoc about tegretol, but I'm scared about the potential seizures that can occur if you go off of it cold turkey. anyone on it and know about how many days you have to miss before that becomes an issue? I might miss a night here or there if I stay at a friends place and forget my meds. I just don't want to be in class and seize out if I miss a night...

Hi and welcome to Psych Central! I suggest you ask a druggist about this one. I doubt a night would matter. I carry an extra Tegretol capsule in my purse, just in case.

Talk to your psychiatrist and pharmacist about that. I've missed a dose and not had a problem. However, more than that in a row...might be a problem. You could always keep some with u so u dont have to miss a dose. I just carry a one week pill container with me so no matter what I have my meds. It easier for me that way.

What I do if I think this this might be a problem when I go out, I have a little pill box for my meds that I can throw in my pocket or purse just in case.

I take Geodon, another anti-seizure medication. I can't miss a single dose of it without going into major withdrawal. I have about a 6 hour window for taking the dose before I start to feel the lack of the drug. I do not know if Tegretol works the same way or not. A pharmacist can tell you the life and half life of the chemical in your system, but a lot of this is related to the size of the dose you take and your own body.
