I know trileptal and tegretol(sp?) are in the same fam but what IS the difference? I ask because I'm on trileptal now and after about 4 months it has lost its jazz. I have an appointment with the nurse tomorrow and I want to go in with some idea of what I want to try next and I thought of tegretol.

So if anyone has experience with it or knows the difference then please enlighten me! Also any ideas of what I should try next would help. My biggest problem right now is depression. Also tried lithium and lamictal before too and that's not an option.

Hi Rx,
Being in Lamotrigine an Lithium myself, I can't share a personal experience.
However, I have a friend that eats Latuda from btrakfast to bedtime as monotherapy. Smokes a lot of pot too. He's doing all right. I'm thinking about it. I mean, the Latuda.

Oxcarbazepine vs. Carbazipine.
Just a little tweak as in a slight change in the chemical structure. An added oxygen molecule.

I think you need to get blood tests on tegretol. That's why I refused to take it one summer when I was manic. I said I wouldn't take the time to go to a lab. I also didn't want the mania to end so I was refusing to take anything though.

I'm not sure what the difference is though.

Yea, this too
Although my pdoc that initially prescribed it had me do blood tests before, and the next pdoc one every six months. But I no longer do. So I only had about three tests.

Yea I needed labs with trileptal too. Only one within the whole time though. No big deal for me unless toxicity is common. That's a deal breaker and why I won't do lithium again
