Lately I've been under a lot of stress, so I've been imagining a place where I could be perfectly at peace. In my imagination, this sanctuary would be a handsome log cabin on a peaceful lake or pond with a view of some mountains in the distance. It is probably in northern New England, but it could be anywhere where it doesn't get too hot. There are no neighbors that can be seen or heard. Powerboats are not allowed on the lake, so it is always quiet. I have a kayak so that I can explore the lake and go fishing whenever I feel like it. I also have a canoe for when a friend comes over. My cabin has only one room, but it is large enough to give me the space I need. It is filled with my fishing gear, a bench for tying flies, and a few other important items. There is a loft with a bed for visitors. My cabin also has a wood or coal stove to keep me warm in the cold weather. There is a porch in the front with two Adirondack chairs perfectly positioned for looking out at the scenery. I have a simple, low-stress job. I am not married anymore. A cat keeps me company.

The pine trees whisper as I drink my morning coffee on the porch. Two loons drift by.

How does this sound?

Very nice "escape"!! I often listen to meditation music and sound effects and like to imagine the surrounding with it. If it's waves I imagine a beach ect. It is relaxing and if you have a good imagination it works out great

Sounds lovely! I think my happy place would be in a garden with beautiful flowers, hummingbirds and butterflies flitting around them, and songbirds singing and eating birdseeds. I could lay in a hammock and watch all of this beauty with a clear blue sky above me with a few white clouds. I would feel bathed in warm sunlight as I closed my eyes and breathed deeply.

I could maybe have that if I had a green thumb or gave a darn about gardening, but alas, I do not. ;-)

It sounds lovely! Mine is an Oceanside view of the ocean in a nice and quiet condo resort.

The Skeezyks often takes his dog out for a late night stroll just before bed. We live in a large metropolitan area. So there are always cars passing through. Sometimes there are a few people on the street, depending on the weather. But, for the most part, all is dark & quiet. During these walks, I often imagine myself just walking alone off into the night never to return...

Sounds like heaven - and a lot like a place I used to know in Vermont. Thanks for the memories/vision.
