I just had my appt and my dr prescribed me Effexor. 37.5mg pill for one week then two pills. Anyone take this? Good or bad experience? I was also referred to a psychiatrist (I think that's what he said he is. Feeling hopeful.

It worked really well for me and never had any problems. However, getting off when that time comes can cause really bad withdrawls for lots of people.

I have been on Effexor for quite a while now.
It is one of the few meds that I have been able to tolerate. The doc just jumped me up from 225 to 300mg. So far my experience with Effexoer has been pretty positive. Everyone is different and I hope it turns out to be good for you.

I vote no, its cousin Pristiq worked better for me. And the Effexor killed all interest in sex (I guess that's I didn't mind being single for so long

It was a miracle drug for me. It got me out of a 18 month long depression. Best wishes.

Never took it because I heard horror stories about withdraw. But I'm glad you finally made it to a doc! Too bad he didn't give you a PRN for anxiety or dysphoria (if that's still an issue with you). I'm sure pdoc will help you out there though. Good luck!

Effexor worked really well for me when I was a teenager but do NOT forget to take it, you will know. Withdrawal is hell, even from 37.5. I tried it again in the fall but I think it made me really hungry and so I gained a lot of weight. But that might not have been the Effexor, it could have just been my body changing.

Effexor was a hard row for me to hoe. I couldn't drive on it. Please place your Lefty icon in the BAD column for Effexor.

Effexor didn't work for me at all and the withdrawal was terrible. Hopefully it works well for you, though.

So far the Effexor has been ok.
I do worry about the future if I ever want off of it. I hear the withdrawal symptoms are super bad. Try to keep an open mind.

Effexor worked really well for me for a long time. Eventually I had to switch as it wasn't working as well anymore (after several years). I was able to get off of it without too much horribleness. Had some brain zaps for a couple of weeks as I was reducing dosage, but I think it only took me about a month to get off of 300mg.

Both times I've asked to get off the Effexor I was told no because we're still mixing the cocktail and it's best not to remove ingredients until it settles.

I had a lot of muscular type issues while on it including uncontrolled movements and being all drawn up and palsy like when I'd wake up in the morning.
I'd literally have to manually articulate my limbs just to get myself able to move around for the day, and when I'd mention that to my treatment team they'd poo-poo all that and kept me on it for several years. By the time they did take me off of it several years later, the "discontinuation symptoms", as they like to refer to withdrawal, were downright evil, wicked, mean & nasty! I have a lot of chronic joint and muscular pain issues now and can't help but wonder if being on this med long term contributed to the cause. My advice is to educate yourself on all the side effects - short term and long - and proceed with caution! ![]() |

I just did some reading on it and now I'm nervous :/ I read that some had weight loss on it because they didn't feel like eating, I could def use that side effect.
Anyone know how long it takes to start working? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I can't wait to see the psychiatrist that my dr referred me to. I have never seen anyone other than my family dr, and he said he has referred a lot of patients to him so far (he just moved here so is accepting patients) and he said he has only heard good things. I just googled him to see reviews and I haven't read a single bad comment, they all say he is a good listener, compassionate, empathetic, non judgemental and kind.

Hubby has been on it for year & a half or so.
Been a good fit so far. Vast improvement over Wellbutrin. Think he takes 150mg once in am. |

375mg a day for about 10 years ...
Needless to say I'm no longer so passive about my treatment options anymore. Especially when it comes to medications! ![]() |

I'm supposed to take it in the morning with food, am I supposed to take it at the exact same time every day or just whenever I have breakfast? Because I don't always have breakfast at the same time every day, it depends on the day.

I would think whenever you have breakfast but someone with more knowledge might come along.
