Hi folks,

Xanax, (Alprazolam in my case), is the culprit of my morning deppresion.

It keeps me in bed ruminating for an hour or more. Then during breakfast and beyond another two hours. Three hours of sheer hell. This is @ .5mg.

I suspected it was the little bue pill cut in half. But it is extremely hard to sleep with out it. I didn't take it the night before last, slept little, but the fog was less, the depression almost minor.
Last night, I took it again. Same results in the morning. Right now, it's hard to type.
This little pill can. It can Ruin the rest of your life.

Any advice as how to get rid of this poison?.

Wow. I have never heard of that type of reaction to it. I would ask my p-doc to try something different. Have you tried Klonopin or other benzodiazepines? Or perhaps some different kind of sleep aid?

I don't know, except to say wean slowly. Regardless it's going to suck for awhile.

If alprazolam is making you depressed I'd stay away from other ones.

Stay away from other ones anyway!

Klonopin works for me for sleep with no residual effects in the morning.

I take Klonopin prn for anxiety. I used to take a Xanax under my tongue for panic attacks.
It's amazing to me how diff meds work on everyone.

I won't take Klonopin for a week and then get real anxiety and take two. Next day I am fine without it. Just weird.

Exactly my idea. No more benzos.

No benzos or a switch in benzo would be my advice. Are you taking a night time AP that helps with sleep? I was recently switched to saphris and it's helped a lot after seroquel for years which left me a napping zombie the whole next day. I've been taking 1mg of Xanax a night too and it helps. No depression when waking but it makes my friends anxiety more on edge when she takes it. Every med is different for every person though.

Hi Rx, I want off benzos. I'm a 1/2mg away.
Klonopin is better to sleep. Longer lasting. Xanax lasts me about four hours.
I'm also taking remeron 15mg.
Plus the other stooge, trazodone. This one is hangover wonderland. Gets me dizzy, but does nothing for my sleep.

Have you tried insomnia medications, like gabapentin, Lunesta, and Silenor?

If all else fails, you can get a horse tranquilizer

I tried horse tranquilizer once, not as a sleep aid. Never again.

Tried Ambien. Not good. Eating binges.
I wanted Vistaril, she gave me remeron in the heat of the moment.
I'm going to go prepared with what I want in writing next visit.
I'm cutting the Traz too. I was @ 150mg now @50. Maybe tonight will go
to 25mg.
It takes so much effort, sometimes I want to quit 'em all.

Oh wonderful traz! Makes my nose plugged and feel like I was at a frat party the night before.

Yeah, I know right. This one will be gone soon. Tried cold turkey. Not again.

Xanax can be difficult to get off. Could you ask your pdoc for a taper plan like halve the dose for 2 weeks and again for another 2 weeks and so on. Or switch to the equivalent dose of Valium and taper from there as its easier. It certainly isn't working for you but sleep is crucial so maybe a non benzo can help with that. I am trying to come of Clonazepam (Klonopin) right now and it is tough. Will stay away from benzo's once I do. Wish you all the best.

I have friends who swear by the natural sleep aid, Melatonin. No idea if it would interact with BP meds, so best to check with p-doc or pharmacist first. Good luck!

Melatonin works great I agree. I have to take the highest dose sold, and then some. It takes a dart gun to put me down at night. Besides the times I was getting blacked out drunk for rest, I was always dependent on a AP for sleepXanax. The little pill that can.. Wicked cycle for sure.

I took 2.5mg melatonin last night, as per your reminder. I've taken it before.

Night cocktail: 15mg remeron. 25mg trazodone. .25mg xanax. 2.5mg melatonin.
I must be close to Serotonin syndrome, hehe. Since I'm still driving four horses,
I don't know which is doing what, but I felt better today.
If I don't have withdrawal from the xanax today, it's a keeper. Thank you!!!.
