My doctor has just prescribed me the med Vraylar because my insurance would not approve Latuda. It's a brand new drug that just hit the market about a month ago. Does anyone else know much about it or have you been prescribed the medicine?

Vraylar...

It sounds like it should be the name of a character in star wars or something. Lol.

Anyway, never heard of it so can't help. Sure others can though!

I read about this when it was approved and we were desperate for a drug that I hadn't been on. It sounds like a good drug. I get movement disorders very easily and this had a higher risk of them than is good for me so it wasn't something my pdoc wanted to try (and it wasn't available yet when I needed it). Otherwise the side effect profile was good and it had good effects in trials. It was trialed by a dr. who ran a clinical trial I was in years ago and he is known for not taking on drugs he doesn't believe in.

Good luck on it and please let us know how it goes.

PS the name is the weirdest drug name ever

From what I've read, it seems promising. Looks like it's approved to treat bipolar depression and mania.

Unlike Vraylar, Latuda is only approved for bipolar depression. They didn't have enough evidence to claim it helps with mania. So, you're probably better off with Vraylar than Latuda (if you had to pick between the two).

It would be pretty cool if Vraylar was sponsored by Star Wars. Then you can get little Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, etc. shaped pills. I would totally buy that.

Oh, random fact: Carrie Fisher (AKA Princess Leia) has bipolar disorder. How awesome (and terrible) is that?
Thanks for this!

I was thinking it was from Norse mythology and wondered why it was under the bipolar threads. LoL

That's awesome news!! I'm so excited to hear that. So far it's working great except sometimes I get drowsy but I can deal with that. My pdoc and I said the same exact thing about the name

That makes sense. I still felt slightly manic at times when I was on Latuda.

If it was sponsored by Star Wars I would just die. By far one of my favorite series of movies.

Wow. I had no idea that she was diagnosed with bipolar!

Didn't they find Carrie Fisher in some neighbor's bushes one time with her two front teeth missing? Or was that some other person?
