Hi guys!

For those of you on Lithium, how long would you say it took before you noticed it working.

I feel like an hour after I pop a lithium I feel the side effects of nausea and confusion butnindint feel the mental emotional parts till about a week of taking it. If I forget a dose I start to creep into mania or hypo mania and it takes about another few days to get back with the lithium.

Should it take a week to really work?
New to think. I've only been taking for a couple months now. I'm at 900mgs at 300mg 3 times a day. Is that a lot?

Thanks

Roman.

When I first took Lithium I didn't notice anything except some passing nausea that was eased when I took it with food. It took about 3 months before i noticed it was working well but I was going through a tough time so may not have noticed. I take 1000mg so 900mg is decent but not too much, unless of course your blood work says otherwise. The positives I felt was more mood stability and less suicidal ideation. Missing doses can hurt. I don't seem to react until I am off it for days. Off Lithium I am a mess so that is what keeps me taking it.

When I started lithium... Was lucky enough not to get any nausea or anything, but within 5 days my voices were gone, and 7 days, my moods had dramatically shifted. I haven't gone off it, because it took far too long for me to get diagnosed properly, and even tho it's not working as well in terms of my moods (I seem to get used to meds quickly) I still take it because the positives outweigh the negatives. Altho, on the other hand, i have maybe been on it a year.

I didn't get the nausea; hopefully that will pass for you as you adjust. It seems like it took close to a month for me to really recognize it was working. 900mg to about 1050mg was usually about what I took. It varies from person to person.

I would say about a month, but I took Lithium Orotate (OTC) first and when I took the first of those it had a big impact and I felt better. Lithium Orotate is much much smaller dose than the Lithium Carbonate the dr. prescribes. I think I was just extremely deficient.

Don't tell me you get manic when skipping a dose. I'll NEVER take it again!!!
I know lithium is interfering with Mother Mania and myself. But didn't know to what extent. Tururu tutur tutur tutut trruturur.

What is a lot is taking it so many times a day. I take 600 all-in after dinner.
I tried 900 but couldn't handle the shits.
Eat enough salt. Lots of water, like in a 1/2 a gallon to a gallon and avoid caffeine.
You'll be all right.
I don't wanna know about the thyroid, the kidneys or any other burshiit.
It's working for me and we will die embraced.

Lithium started working for me after about 2 weeks, and at about 6 weeks my pdoc bumped it up to a more "therapeutic dose" of 900mg and that's what I've been on since. I think I've had minimal side effects from it and it has worked better for me than any other MS / AP I've been on.

As others have said you can REALLY tell a difference if you miss a dose even by just a couple of hours. The hypomania / mania creeps quickly but once you take the dose, it subsides.
