Hi everyone,

I can't find the posts, but a few times on this forum (at least I think it was this board) people have mentioned getting a cheek swap which could be tested to find the right meds for them. I've asked some doctors and none are familiar with this. Even going so far as to say it doesn't exist. I'm in the U.S., is this something offered in other countries? If you know anything about it, please share any details you have.

Thanks.

Elsa Mars, this is fairly new. They are using it already in the insurance field to see what you will die from so they can charge you more or give you a discount on insurance. It soon will mushroom out to the medical professions. Many oppose this sort of thing cause it is potentially leading up to Cripto... a technology to alter your DNA which most shun... there is a lot going on scientifically that people are totally unaware of. This screening of your DNA also can put you on others lists which are unethical. If you feel comfortable with it fine, but to us older folks it is slowly making us comply to regulations of big government and that is reminisent for me of WWII. blessings and tc

I've heard of people getting tested for CYP450 variants. This is a class of enzymes that metabolize like 50% of drugs in general so if drs know what version of a particular enzyme you have they can predict how your body will metabolize a specific drug. But they have to know which drug is metabolized by which enzyme so not all drugs can be tested this way. I've seen it used in people getting cholesterol meds. If they have a disease that makes them deficient in an enzyme then the drug won't be as effective as it should and it can be dangerous bc they're not getting the appropriate treatment. Same thing with psych meds. Idk how useful a tool it is or how cost prohibitive at this point but I would totally do it just bc the science is so awesome. Maybe worth asking your doc about. omegalamed, you do have a point about it being dangerous to let the wrong people know too much about our genes. This is something that we should pay attention to and make sure that we are demanding regulations on who can access that info and how it is protected. There are some laws in place but as this science develops the laws will have to as well. The biggest concern now is insurance being a **** if they know you have some gene that makes you more prone to illness. Sorry for the long post. This is what I study so I get really excited about it. Good luck with your meds 😃

yes, i have done this. it can tell you what meds your liver will process the best. which one will be most effective. there are companies that do this but i think it's pretty pricey. i do not think it's some government/insurance conspiracy to get your DNA. i am not even sure if insurance pays for this yet. my test revealed that risperdal and invega work best for me. since then i have been on invega and have had minimal symptoms

I've asked 2 doctors and neither knew this test exists. I will be asking 2 more in the upcoming weeks. I'm not worried about them getting my DNA because I shed everywhere and anyone with tweezers, could easily get some of me to test.

If WWIII ever occurs and they decide to target the weak, infirm and mental ill first (as they did with WWII) I will deal with that then. Don't get me wrong, the paranoia isn't totally lost on me. I feel the benefits of this test would outweigh the risks for me. I do understand and appreciate the concerns of people who feel otherwise.
