Hello forum,
Recently I found out one of my old friends from high school is disappointed with me and is talking about me behind my back. He thinks I've personally penalized him because I kept canceling our plans 'cause I was too depressed to see him. I kept my disorder from him so he doesn't know the reason for me frequently canceling. When me and my ex boyfriend were together he apparently said nasty things about me to him and told him that "I don't deserve him 'cause I'm immature and don't know what I want." I feel his words are part of the reason he broke up with me. I've been doing so well this week with stabilizing my mood and now I just feel so hurt and betrayed. I used to think of him as one of my best friends. I've tried talking to him but he won't answer my texts. I'm scared if he does answer he'll say something nasty.
I'm so angry at myself. Why do I keep letting people down?

To be honest, he doesn't really sound like the kind of person you should be concerned about. It's not you, it's him.

Better question is why is this guy talking about you to others. He probably has issues of his own he'd be better off working on than talking about yours which solves nothing right?

If you want to save the relationship, you could try being honest with him. Some people are genuinely understanding once they know it's about you and not them. He might feel insecure because you cancel and knowing the reason would let him know it's not just about you not caring or something he did.

Hugs to you.

I finally gave up and started telling everyone I was depressed. I mean my friends who I would cancel on. People seem to understand depression. Most of mine don't really know about the bipolar, but since I have more depression it works out.

But I agree, if this guy is talking about you, he may not be a good friend.

Eh, don't fret over high school. Doesn't sound like someone worth spending the time on. We grow out of most high school relationships and move on to the adult world. Let him talk. Move on and above it.
