My new nephew has arrived!! I was at the hospital pretty much the entire day. I saw my sister have contractions, they increased in frequency and intensity. I felt so bad seeing her in so much pain, I was just overcome with emotions and had to leave the room and I cried in the family waiting room. I brought my journal with me just in case (I packed a bag for myself, I figured I was going to be there a while). So I had to write about all those feelings.
After coming back from the cafeteria following my meltdown, we returned to her room right as the epidural was kicking in. Apparently while we were gone, trying to get the needle in was difficult as the contractions increased, so by the time the epidural finally took affect (after the second try), the baby was pretty much was about to come out. So it's like 75% of labor was natural
She allowed me to stay in the room as she delivered. Wow. I've never seen anything like that in my life. I don't even have a way to express that experience. When my first nephew was born, I showed up at the hospital afterwards. With this one, I was there for everything. The contractions, the pain, the epidural, and the delivery. He came out so pink with a powerful set of lungs! He's so cute and fragile. I loved him before he was born, but seeing him for the first time, I can't wait to spoil him!
I know I'm a female capable of doing the same thing, but it does confirm a choice to not have children. That was too much.

It's been a long day, so hopefully tomorrow I can figure out how to upload pics. I'm so excited, I just had to share!

Congrats on your new nephew.

I agree that childbirth sounds and looks painful. I don't know how some women do it, as it scares the crap out of me. I'm pretty sure I was a c-section when I was born, so I don't think my mom actually delivered me naturally. (It's not like she had a choice anyway. She was in labor for 23 hours and I wasn't coming out. )

Anyway, I can imagine it was quite an experience. I probably would have had a meltdown as well... I'd be SO overwhelmed. I don't know if I could stay in the delivery room without freaking out...

Congratulations on the birth of your nephew.

Having seen several births and judging by my wife's reaction I think on a scale of 1-10 childbirth is about an 18 pain level. But it is indeed a sight to behold, nothing like it. My best wishes go out to the Mom and baby.

Now you have a new purpose in life, spoiling him. Hurry, before you know it he will be all grown up.

Congrats, gina!

As a woman who has experienced the wonderful feeling of childbirth, I have to say for me it wasn't so bad. I have high pain tolerance. Nurses were impressed. For me it was just way uncomfortable. Seven hours. She slipped out. Honestly, it was disgusting. Lol.

Honestly, just gross. Fluids. Blood. She was cold and wet. I know I'm horrible for just being grossed out by the experience.

I had three and never found it too gross. The first baby they let me lay in agony for 30 hours before an epidural. Something about first time moms needing to make progress in labor on their own. Numbers two and three I begged for the epidural first thing. So they were a party.

So glad you got to see it...many people never do.
