So, I was drinking Mountain Dew today for no reason. (First time I've had caffeine in 1 year.) I decided to look on the back to see how much caffeine is in it. Couldn't find it

Then I looked at the ingredients... The main flavor in Mountain Dew is Concentrated Orange Juice! (It's supposed to be a lemon-lime flavored drink, right?) And apparently there's vegetable oil in it too? WTF lol

Does anyone drink this stuff? Now I'm curious what's in other sodas and energy drinks!

I don't know how/why you would put vegetable oil in a drink!
Thanks for this!

I don't drink the Mtn Dew sodas, but I'm addicted to their Kickstart energy drinks! Mainly because I don't get that jittery over caffeinated feeling as I would from a Red Bull. It just increases my energy and gives me that boost for the day. And I don't crash from them either.
They're most likely horrible to be drinking, but most of the flavors are good, and they work (for the most part) when I need them to.
Thanks for this!

Interestingly, there is *no* vegetable oil in the Kickstarts: https://phazetwo.files.wordpress.com...7/dsc_2674.jpg

I wonder why regular Mountain Dew has oil in it, but the kickstarts don't

The kickstarts seem safer! You're better off than me anyways, as I obviously just drank flavored vegetable oil

Perhaps they need to keep the insides of machines lubricated and do so with Veg oil, and thus have to list it as a potential ingredient.

I used to drink a ton of mountain dew, too. Regular and diet both. I quit all soda going on 3 weeks ago now i get my caffeine from hot tea no sugar or milk. I have decided that soda is poison, as i feel so much better in my body without it!! My head's still crazy, but that's another story. Ha.

On the topic of soda and similar drinks.

For some reason, most caffeine beverages cause severe mood swings for me. Last time consumed some soda, about two months ago, I stayed awake for 24 hours straight, and the severe panic attacks and fits of crying crippled me. Negative thoughts were constant until my second round of nighttime medication made me fall asleep.

I have no idea why I such intolerance to high amounts of it at once. I guess some of us can handle it while others cannot.

I've never even had a Mountain Dew(!) Or an energy drink(!) Quick! Call the zoo, lol.
It's not for lack if time (decades is plenty of opportunity, right?). That quasi-fluorescent color always kind of wigged me out.

Have consumed plenty of caffeine though. Just not via those particular beverages.

I rarely drink soda and raised a daughter who doesn't drink soda at all. We always had filtered water at our house, and milk, and juice...not to mention coffee and tea. (Oh caffeine, you rule me.)

You're drinking the orange flavored kickstart energy drink by them, therefore it's going to taste like orange and have caffeine. The soda alone is one of the drinks on the market with the lightest caffeine levels.

ah, sorry for not being clear... i've never had the orange flavored kickstart before. i'm talking about regular mountain dew

apparently the orange juice is meant to prevent the citrus flavor from separating out!

as far as vegetable oil goes, i guess it could be a thickener? no idea.

Mountain Dew Slurpees have zero caffeine?? Wow!

Is it similar to cola flavored icees?

I drink a lot of OJ but now that you point it out, perhaps I will add the following to my breakfast routine -

A touch of seltzer
Melted Crisco or an appropriate substitute
Tea extract
Lime juice

Bang! I'm ready for work! I might go for olive oil instead because I'm in a phase right now where I'm seeking that "Mediterranean skin" look. I will get back to you on the results. I hope I don't end up like Cosmo Kramer did when he went to the tanning salon.

Actually, the oil doesn't bother me. It's evidently needed for some good effect. I knew about the OJ.

My mother used to cook with vegetable oil and I have, too. Cakes can have it in them, for instance.

I used to drink Mountain Dew all the time, but I rarely do now. I drink other poisons such as Coke and Dr Pepper.

I didn't know MD had vegetable oil! Oh well, it's tasty! I rarely drink it because I don't like the diet and I kicked regular soda ages ago (I know, some people think diet is worse for you; I have no idea). I am horribly addicted to diet Pepsi. About 2 liters a day! I also kicked the Monster habit, although I *love* that stuff!
