My husband has a bad temper and has lost his job (been laid off) several times before due to the nature of his jobs (NOT because of his temper, though). He just came out of a period of unemployment at the end of February. Lately he's had some stressors at work that have made him get really angry and I'm afraid he's going to lose his temper, do something stupid, and lose his job.
My pdoc has had to double my Xanax XR due to this situation because I keep obsessing that he will lose his job and/or that his temper will make me so unstable (possibly hospitalized) that I will feel the need to have to separate from him. I have NEVER in my life been on this much Xanax and I really would rather not take so much. I love my husband SO much and our relationship is fantastic other than his moods. Normally, when I'm feeling stable, I stay pretty calm with my husbands moods. I really think I may need to be put on an antidepressant because of the anxiety and obsession and I think I have a pretty good case for it to bring to my pdoc. I'm also getting intrusive thoughts (they usually come along the times when my OCD is flared up). Most of the time my pdoc avoids antidepressants with me due to my tendency to be hypomanic. Lately, I have not been hypomanic, it has been more depression along with obsession. So I suspect I'm probably overreacting, thinking that my husband and I may have to split up due to his moods/temper. I think I'm extra sensitive/obsessive right now and I think it's time to see the pdoc again. Bipolar 2, OCD, GAD Lithium, Trileptal, Latuda, Risperdal, Xanax XR, Xanax PRN |

(((hugs))). I'm not good with relationship advise but wanted you to know I hear you and can sympathize. Having this illness really does make us more sensitive to the moods of others. Your situation is not an easy one. Does your husband see a therapist also? How about couples counseling?

It seems to me that you want to medicate yourself for your husband's emotional problems. I'm not suggesting that he needs medication, but he needs treatment of some kind. You shouldn't have to take extra medication because of him. It's not fair, and it's probably not healthy.

I think an antidepressant is worth a shot. I take them along with other meds. Also, I switched from Xanax back to Klonopin. It takes longer to kick in than Xanax but it doesn't wear off so quickly. I was worried about getting addicted to Xanax and I think Klonopin is safer for me. I take 1 mg every six hours (not PRN). In addition to Lamictal and Geodon...I take two antidepressants. Wellbutrin and Lexapro. I also have OCD, PTSD, Panic Disorder, GAD and PMDD but bipolar 1 is my biggest struggle. (I'm also borderline anorexic but sort of in denial about it. Hard to explain. I self-manage it.)
Hope that was not too much about me. I hope things look up for you and wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you....and share my take on meds. I think too many pdocs freak over giving us antids and Benzos for bipolar, but that is just my opinion. Just don't drink and stay away from drugs that are 't prescribed to you ... keep us posted xo Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
