Who do you see? A doctor that prescribes or someone seperate?
The reason I ask is that for a few years now I've been seeing psychiatrists that DONT do therapy and a therapist on the side. My therapist is now changing his hours in a way that doesn't work for me. I also recently started seeing a new pdoc. The pdoc does talk therapy and has asked me in the past if I'm happy with the quality of therapy I'm currently getting. In theory, I could switch. In some ways I think it could be beneficial because he could maybe more accurately prescribe, having a better understanding of me as a person. The actual whole picture. On the other hand I'm terrified that he will constantly change my meds or overreact. ( I'm also terrified of leaving my current therapist because I don't trust anyone ever and I do trust him) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I see a therapist and a pdoc. Until I started posting here, I had never heard of a pdoc giving therapy.
I can see some benefits in having your pdoc give you therapy. One of those benefits is what you already stated -- "better understanding". It also means you'll be checking in with him more often, which implies that he can better assess your medication regimen. I don't think he'll constantly change your meds, though. I can't see him being any different from a regular pdoc who doesn't do therapy. There's a difference between life struggles (e.g., something bad in your life happened) and neurochemical imbalances (e.g., feeling depressed for no reason). He's probably well rounded enough to know the difference. ![]() |
