apart from making notes?

notes usually work a treat for me, i'll look at them- and think oh yes, that's what it was... but i have 1- a note that simply reads, 123.41,

i know i must have written that down for a reason, but for the life of me.. no idea what it is for!

so how else do you remember things

Does the number have to do with money? It only has 2 decimal places.

Or, it could be a store item ID? I know IKEA has its item ID's written like that.

It could be a percentage, but I don't think it is...

I have sh*tty memory, so I probably won't be of any help when it comes to remembering things.

I use my phone and set alerts. I also make sure my note is detailed enough to know what it's for.

bluebicycle,

thanks for your reply.. yes, it is probably something to do with money

i'd love to rip my memory out and replace it with 1 that vaguely works

detailed notes are a good idea, but by the time i'm ready to write a note, most of the detail's gone rendering it useless

My best friend has a perfect memory. Outside of taking notes, if I want to remember something, I tell her. It's her gift and curse (for me). Sometimes she remembers stuff that I don't want her to remember, lol.

Use my iPad for appointments with alerts
Haven't yet figured out how to use the notes
Names are my biggest problem

Obsessional thought perseveration. Recapitulating continuously your thought/idea. Just the essential/distinguishing features/words. Then run to a piece of paper and write it down or use your phone.

I do it all the time, except when stable (as if that will ever happen truly/long-term ).

I associate things with each other, and try to remember something specific that goes with the item. Smells, sound, place - all of these help me remember what I need to remember.

For employment, I usually use a 3 ring index card file, with various tasks outlined so I can always get them right.

I repeat them in my head over and over. For example at work when we clock in/clock out for a break it has to be EXACTLY 30 minutes so if I clock out at 2:19 I will repeat in my head 2:49 for almost the entirety of my break so I don't forget.

How relaxing.

But I do something similar: imagining how a/the clock will appear when I "need" to resume whatever. Then there is an automatic association with a fear once my imaginary clock corresponds to the real one.

It is more relaxing then thought perseveration.

Association also helps me.

Make notes on paper. When I have to actually write it instead of typing it helps with recall
Apps to remind me what pills to take and when
If paper is not available then I'll type it into the notepad on my phone
Nothing beats pen to paper for me
