I thought this may be of benefit to some people here. Today, a repeat aired on tv of a Dr. Oz show with Maurice Bernard, an actor who plays as Sonny on the soap opera General Hospital. You may be aware of him if you watch soaps. I don't, but I'm now a fan of his after watching his story, and how he is trying to advocate for us.

I'm not familiar with him or this, but I'm a big fan of anyone who advocates for us. Does he have bipolar?

Thanks for adding that in. Goofy me forgot too. I mentally fell out of my recliner a few weeks ago, and I'm still rebounding.

I hadn't heard of him but I found this exert of his story. He suffers classical symptoms and is a wonderful advocate.

I really like and respect Maurice Bernard. His story is inspiring, and he demonstrates to others with preconceived notions about Bipolar that many people (including him) can be very successful, in spite of having the diagnosis. Although I'm not into soaps much, I always loved him on General Hospital as Sonny. Even as Sonny, they decided to write in the script that his character has Bipolar, which must be not only a role Maurice can relate to, but healing for him as well, I would imagine.

Thanks for sharing this.
What an inspiring youtube video!

I agree with Maurice. We stand a greater chance of erasing stigma by sharing openly, which can feel very scary, vulnerable.

I have seen huge changes in the past 30 years. There is still some stigma associated with any mental illness; however, it's much less now and I have hopes there will, one day soon, be no stigma at all.

Just awesome!
Thanks again!
