So I've made a poll for the next book with suggestions that I have seen made in previous threads. If you have further books to suggest, post them on this thread and they will be included on the next poll.
Thanks for this!

I voted for an Unquiet Mind since I have the book and it's been recommended often.

I also own a copy of Bell Jar and have read it, but do not remember it at all and will need to read again to discuss.

I voted for Madness. I have read it, but I'd love to read it again. I prefer it to the others since it is about BP, not just depression, and I thought it portrayed (from what I remember) BP a lot better than An Unquiet Mind, which I didn't find very compelling. I think I'd prefer Touched With Fire or maybe Exuberance.

Maybe we could reach a compromise?

I would be fine with anything that's chosen honestly. Bell Jar and Unquiet Mind are just convenient since I already own them, but I can get ahold of any book given a little time.

Found the title.
Madhouse: a tale of megalomania and modern medicine.
A true tale of a doc tire who believed mental illnesses was caused by infections and how he pulled teeth as a precaution. It's not BP specifically but it details anougher barbaric treatment fostered on the mentality I'll in the name of modern meds, much as the lobotomy was in its day.

I too picked the unquiet mind because I already have a copy.

I voted for the Bell Jar because I very much like Sylvia Plath. I have not read the others on the list though. Perhaps I should give them a go?

No on the list but the book that helped me the most with accepting my disease was Emilie Autumns Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls. My husband just surprised me with a signed first edition copy, I cried.

Any chance we can rename subject title to say book club for those that don't know the acronym?
Thanks for this!

I voted for Bell Jar because I read it recently and would love to get others take on it but would also like to read madness and wouldn't mind rereading An Unquiet Mind because it was so good.

I was wondering if we could put all the BBCBBC threads in a sub group in the bipoar form so they are easier to find?

Just search for "BBCBBC". Use the search mechanism/feature by clicking on "Search" on the blue bar at the top of the page.

That's why the acronym is useful.

You can't change the title afterwards. The acronym is useful, but book club would be fine as well next time we create a poll, I guess. Fine by me. As long as we use the acronym in a post in each thread as a tag, as explained above.

You can also reach all pages except for the poll via the main thread with the full name of the book club and " (list)" as title.

Just bumping this up so that anyone who hasn't gotten a chance to vote can do so before we close the poll

Thanks! It looks like we basically have a three way tie so should we go ahead and take those as our next three books and just start a new thread for each every 3 weeks or so?

Could we read another book by Kay Redfield Jamison (please! ), read The Bell Jar first (of these books) and then the KRJ book and the Madness one?

If you'd really prefer An Unquiet Mind to Touched With Fire or Exuberance, that's perfectly fine, but I'd rather not read it again and I haven't read the other two. Of course you can read and discuss that one without me: no problem. Or maybe only the Madness one (and The Bell Jar, obviously). And (maybe) after that another poll with all other suggestions.

I bought "Exuberance" but really disliked it and didn't finish it.
I wouldn't mind reading "Touched with fire" but so many people have "An Unquiet Mind" and it's such a classic that it might attact more people to the discussion.
Thanks for this!

I voted for Unquiet Mind because I have it and it would be easier for me. I never really got into it only because it takes great discipline for me to sit and read.

LadyShadow, have you tried or considered audiobooks? They are great fun and you can listen while surfing the net, or laying down.....I listen in the bath and shower, during car rides....they are less restrictive than paper books and the voice actors/narrators usually do a great job at bringing the books to life.

Yes I tried one audiobook "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. You know what's funny? I still can't get through it! Even with his peaceful narration! I don't know, I do have "Unquiet Mind" but if the group decides to go a different direction I will open to getting the audiobook version. I could give it another go, I am always up for a different change of pace. Thanks for the suggestion!

So An Unquiet Mind is the Winner of this Poll. We can start that one next, and then I will create another poll with the remaining choices and the new ones that we have added since.
