Have you ever had a flood of depressing thoughts overwhelm you. Or for example today I had a flood of negative thoughts enter my mind but I was able to not fall into despair and continue on. Anyone have a similar experience or term for it.

My major problem is anxiety, so mine is similar but not the same. I get a sense of doom that something bad is about to happen. And it will sometimes stick with me and turn into an anxiety attack.

I get thoughts that tell me I have no purpose, so what's the point....and a flood of thoughts, like I'm not worthy of finding happiness and if I disappeared, it wouldn't make a difference. Lately, I've been working on challenging these thoughts and trying to use positive self-talk to try to cope, but it's not easy.

Very often. Over the last 2 years, not a week has gone by where I have not had this experience. Sometimes it has gone on day after day. I somehow just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

I get very similar thoughts. I recently read a book on improving my self esteem and quieting my inner critic.

I also get anxiety when I have a flood of negative thoughts. Sometimes a klonopin calms me but the thoughts just come in slower.

Thanks for the idea. Reading is helpful. I think I will go to the library or book store to look for something I can read to lift me up and learn how to stop being so hard on myself when I'm feeling depressed.

The book is called: self esteem a proven program of cognitive techniques for assessing, improving and maintaining your self esteem.

I still do have them. Even after years of therapy I have them. However I can usually talk myself out of them.
