we have a book club.. and we don't have a movie one
why don't we come up with a list of movies we could watch- then watch and discuss them? i suggest the first one should be silver lining's playbook (because i'm sure many here have seen it) |

I loved that movie. I identified with the main character a lot as well as his family dynamics. It was funNY too. Thy never showed any side effects ect though, when he restarted his meds.

I was thinking that the other day as well. Would they have to be related to bipolar? I am on waiting list at library to get "Touched with Fire" but it is taking a while.
I also saw "Infinitely Polar Bear" several months ago. I haven't seen "Silver Linings Playbook" but now that I have looked it up definitely want to see it. And of course the classic that might require a trigger warning and which I have been afraid to see is " One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest" |

Bob's getting too old... the movie was all about type cast, man. Was good for Jennifer Lawrence, but other than that,,,,sorry for being a downer, it was interesting in a way that I knew nothing about the "illness" of my own, I was depressed so badly and was binging Hollywood movies, can anyone talk about cinematography or anything about script writing? That'd be interesting.

Hey, sorry for the not encouraging previous post. I was trying to say films comes with something way more than a story line, you can judge films on sound tracks too, I'm a guy who doesn't dismiss the movie credit, 'silver linings playbook' is a good suggestion, I know I'd enjoy watching it over and over again. I'm looking forward to seeing how this is gonna turn out, easy stuff we could do would be like which scenes struck you the most?
I'm just here to share you with another film that I have just come to know with the theme, just now. Infinitely Polar Bear, released in 2014, starring Mark Ruffalo, a very good actor. It's written and directed by a woman, so no stupid portrayal of women characters hopefully. I haven't seen it, you may have. Please watch the trailer and at least consider talking about it. Thanks. ![]() Last edited by Takeshi; Aug 05, 2016 at 01:49 AM. |

Already posted about Infinitely Polar Bear so has 2 votes now! Am going to pick up Silver Lining Playbook this evening--is this the thread to talk about it or just to make suggestions of what to discuss next?

I've avoided watching Silver Linings Playbook because I'm scared it will hit too close to home and trigger me. Did anyone feel that way when watching it?

Just watched it so not sure if ready for discussion since don't want to give any spoilers. Very little of movie covers hospitals or illness directly so don't think that part would trigger

Not a movie but homeland is great in portraying bipolar in a spy's view. And I mean they don't hold back.

Hi everybody in the Movie Club - looks like we have not had a lotta action on the thread. Here is a list of bipolar movies put together by an old bipolar forum. I've seen some and will note which ones:
Love and Mercy about Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys -- just saw this one -- really amazing movie. Mind | Game: The unquiet journey of chamique holdsclaw. Chamique (proun. “Chamiqua”) was probably the greatest women’s basketball player in the world, had bipolar. If you love basketball, you will love this movie. And even if you're not a basketball fan, it's really a great documentary. Bipolar disorder · A Fine Madness (1966) · Frances (1982) I read the book about Frances Farmer years ago. I saw one short clip and it was extremely triggering for me. · Mr. Jones (1993) A lot of my bipolar friends love this movie with Richare Gere. Great scene of him fading from extreme mania to depression; great scene of a high school girl ultra rapid cycling in her psychiatriast session; Richard Gere rage scene underplayed; ending dorky. · Blue Sky (1994) · All She Ever Wanted (1996) · On the Edge of Innocence (1997) · The Horse Whisperer (1998) · Bulworth (1998) · Pollock (2001) · Sylvia (2003) · Special (2006) · The Flying Scotsman (2006) · Michael Clayton (2007) · Observe and Report (2009) · The Informant! (2009) · Boy Interrupted (2009) · The Roommate (2011) Lust for life Cobb Call me Anna My friend Paul Intimate Portrait: Margot Kidder Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive Blue Sky Bulworth Mad Love A Summer in the Cage Dialogues with Madwomen by Allie Light, 1993 produced by Irving Saraf and Allie Light. The other is about bipolar and is very good-it made the person who posted it feel less alone-It's called Four Lives: A Portrait of Manic Depression, 1987 Fanlight Productions. They said they would recommend these movies to anybody |

There are at least three different movie club discussions going on right now so I'd say it took off quickly though may be hard for people to find threads. Silver Lining Playbook, Touched with Fire and Love and Mercy all have threads

Hi nativechic, yes, all these discussions are good, and are spinoffs from this first thread, I suspect. I don't know why a search for "movie" or "movies" does not bring up these threads.
