How do most professionals in health care respond if it's obvious you've injured yourself intentionally?

I don't know the answer.
it might depend upon the extent of the self-harm? I hope you are okay, Vertigo? ![]() WC |

They saw it, asked what happened and why took note of it and we moved on.

Most of the time they just note it and move on. but it does depend on severity in my experience. Any time I've needed stitches I've ended up ip but just "normal" self harm hasn't been an issue. They will work with you to find healthier coping skills and encourage you to talk about why you did it though.

If my pdoc ever saw my crap she would probably put me in IP. I used to have a T make me pull up my sleeves each visit too. As far as my understanding went, if they see it, I'm going to IP. Maybe I signed some paperwork along the lines too or maybe it's a law where I live. I don't know, but I'd be put in IP.

My therapist just has me show her where (assuming it's not in a private area) and takes note of it, asked why I did it, and why I didn't use my DBT skills, and then moves on.

I'm so surprised and how many peoples Drs just take notes. Maybe my inflictions are more serious. They are pretty large and could have needed medical attention. But if I told my pdoc about what I've done this past month alone, I'd be in IP

It depends on the frequency, severeity, the pdoc/t. I know my current t would have me evaluated for ip.
