Yup. My diagnose has been changed to borderline personality disorder which is similar to bipolar with their symptoms..I'm just going with the flow...I just feel like I am pushed to one side then to the other side. It just makes me so angry . Of course I have the hypomania symptoms so I have some traits of bipolar...I think. I don't know. I hate this.

Are the pdocs keeping you on your current meds or are they doing something else?

Bipolar and borderline share some traits, but there are differences as well. I have both (lucky me).

I do hope you get the help you need, regardless of diagnosis.

FWIW, my p-doc once told me it doesn't matter about his diagnosis. He calls himself a "diagnostic nihilist". He's more interested in treating the symptoms and other issues that come with it. I take lithium (before I was on Depakote) and he says I'm BP2 but I could be BPD too.

I'm actually glad I'm BP because now I can run away from a scene I created and yell over my shoulder "sorry suckers, I'm bipolar"!

Focus on your symptoms and just getting better. Climb the mountain one step at a time. I'm on a great one month roll right now - best in probably 20 years - so I'm passing on some goodness.

BPD and bipolar can look alike in symptoms.
The underlying personality organization may be very different.

I have a friend with BPD. I love her dearly. She'd had a severe flare of BPD after some intense life stressors. I had difficulty understanding her words, behaviors, emotions. I really had to study up on BPD to continue to interact in a mutually productive manner.

My point: With my diagnoses, I still could not grasp her experiences, as the inner experiences can be so different.

I don't care for "labels" much. However, they can help us to understand at least some of what may be going on?

Although you may be finding the diagnostic process confusing now, I hope you will find it all somehow helpful in the longer run. My friend and I found it helpful in coming to a deeper, healthier mutual understanding.

Much progress is being made in better understanding BPD. I hold a lot of hope for people living with BPD.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is supposed to be very, very helpful for Borderline Personality. I was just talking to someone with BPD who did not respond well to meds since Personality Disorders tend to be tricky with meds (even though there's some overlapping symptoms with BPD and BP), but she did very well with DBT. There is a lot of research that talks about how effective this form of therapy is. Although it's hard to adjust to being re-diagnosed and misdiagnosed, this can be a great step towards being able to get treatment that works best for you. ((HUGS))
